I've done hundreds if not thousands of miles in a dickey ( rumble) seat.
Nearly died from exposure in mid winter, slept in the back in a sleeping bag whilst others drove, and nearly thrown out when driving at speed on a side road and then crossed the main road without slowing down, all this in an English (Sunbeam) roadster with much less protection then a Model A, more sitting on rather than in it.
Great fun and although we don't own the car today, friends do, and the dickey seat is still very popular.
