I use the neoprene seal as suggested by Steve Becker from Berts. No hammering in,
no leaks, easy to install upside down.

Use a old electric soldering iron the kind with a big copper heat sink, get it good and hot,
put a dab of solder on it to transfer heat and hold it on the end of the broken screw until it...

about 4 or 5 years ago I rebuilt the rear end in my 30 coup with miss matched gears and it runs as quiet as my Cadillac, no noise what so ever.

Tom nailed it, mine had a knock at startup then would go away after a few seconds took the pan off found the center main lose removed .003 of shim all is quiet now.

Another possibility could be a collapsed spring behind the cam plunger allowing the cam to move back and forth. This happened to me on a 29 model a I owned about 62 years ago.

the rear main cap can be removed on a counter weighted crank as I have done it, it is a very close fit and you will have to fiddle around finding the right position, however different counter weights...

Read my post carefully I used a puller to remove the gear however a little heat with a propane torch wouldn't hurt and may help, warmed the gear to put it on, used the kitchen stove for heat...

I replaced both gears in my engine about 3 years ago. The crank gear can be removed with a good puller by removing the hood, front cover and radiator, loosening the motor mounts and jacking up the...

concerning your low power problem, you might check for a plugged muffler or tail pipe (mouse nest) especially if car has been stored for a extended period.

if it was me i would run a drill bit that just fit in the head and spot the broken stud dead center for ease of future extraction.
