Is your fuel pump a mechanical or electrical.?
Push rod problem if mechanical fuel pump.
try fitting a pressure gauge at discharge to carb, you are looking at around 2 psi ideal.

Have been "told" the 5T cam denotes its a truck cam and good for the low down torque.

Yep will ckeck as suggested. There will be another cam being fitted so will check all. The chev distributor was originally running with the timing cover.

I'm sure that hole should not be there also as per above.
As for the fitting of this bolt in this location it seems feasible and will refit when time to assemble and check on set up.

So thanks to the supplied info I managed to get 2 pumps apart.
One was stubborn- Pump impeller broke so cut and split to remove.
The other managed to break piece off impeller trying to remove...

Still wondering how these Merc water pumps have the high ear castings but different snout lengths. ie LHS: 2 3/4" longer one. RHS: 2" same as 8RT pumps.

Thanks for that, so it would seem these are Merc. water pumps.
And must be different models as given measurements from casing to pulley centre vee are
2.3/4 " and 2" which is the same as to 8RT...
