Re: Engine Oil

See the "Microlon" thread. The use of zinc has been debated but found to be beneficial in classic and horiz. opposed cylinder engines. Shell Rotella used to have higher levels of zinc but the levels...

Re: 12 volt Battery in Battery Box

The A vendors sell brackets for the Optima batteries if you go that route. Also, check if the batteries are designed for various climate extremes based on inner plate parameters.

Re: latest issue of restorer

Re: Fs ignitions

I had the 12 v FS zipper which was good except on hills with a H.C. head.; it wouldn't retard enough to prevent knocking. Some owners modify the internals to be able to rotate the dizzy assembly or...

Re: Benefits of a thermostat?

It just came to mind that the factory recommended oil change was 500 miles, so sludge build up of the period (non deterg) oils would possibly be lessened if the A's ran cold when produced.

Re: Benefits of a thermostat?

See other threads, many opinions. The Model A has no bypass system like later and modern cars do to circulate the coolant until the stat opens. Hot spots can potentially occur with stagnant flow...

So, related to the other threads in conjunction to a stat and faster warm up:

Re: Engine heat in cold weather

Some posts have noted cooler running engines with H. Comp heads. Blocking the radiator fins may be a more controllable way to measure or gauge the temps rather than a stat which some say can create...
