I've started by attaching at the dash first, then threading DOWN to the distributor. I unbolt the distributor and remove it, attach the cable, and then reinsert the distributor.

Worked for me,...

Synchro, that is true. But all I have is the data supplied, just the names of the owners.... The only NC title search I can find requires a VIN. This is a 'long shot search' for sure, but worth...

You'll want to make sure you have a very good ground for the starter. Too much paint can 'kill' the grounding. I went ahead and grounded the battery directly to one of the starter attachment...
