Re: Engine quit, won't restart

I'm running the crab style 1942-1944. Someone here said to run FA54 condenser, but I don't know NAPA's # for points. Same as '37-'41?

Re: Engine quit, won't restart

Great! Wouldn't happen to have their part number would you? A lot of young guys at my store that are very well versed at newer stuff, but get a look of shock on their face when I tell them what I'm...

Re: Engine quit, won't restart

Just to update - checked the coil, it's ok, replaced the condenser, still no spark at the plugs. Discovered one of the points wasn't firing. Cleaned it, re-gapped it, put it back together and it...

Re: Engine quit, won't restart

Was gone for a few days, but back in the shop today. The rotor is correct. The coil checks out ok, but the condenser is toast. Before installing the new one, I thought I should check the ballast...

Re: Engine quit, won't restart

It's 12 volts, crab distributor, Blue Streak FD471-X Coil from Mac's, resistor and condenser from NAPA, no fuses installed as of yet, just getting the engine together.

Engine quit, won't restart

I just installed a new radiator with electric fans and a new alternator. Primed the carb and it fired up first try. It was running rough, so I shut it off and discovered I’d loosened a couple of plug...

Re: High Oil Pressure?

Well, turns out it was the relief valve (front of engine, my oil pump doesn't have one). Decided to trim the spring down, put it back together, cranked it up and the pressure is good and steady. No...

Re: High Oil Pressure?

Here’s what we’ve done. Pulled the intake and plugs and the pressure relief valve (wasn’t stuck). Turned over the engine with the starter and you could see oil going into the cavity for the relief...

Re: High Oil Pressure?

I'm really leaning towards converting back to stock. I'm going to talk to my mechanic this week and see what we can do, as he did the conversion. I'll let you know what we come up with. Thanks for...

Re: High Oil Pressure?

I put in the pressure relief valve and it was new. I also traded out for the old one and still have the problem. Bound to figure it out someday.

Re: High Oil Pressure?

I checked the hookup on the filter against the diagram (thank you Talkwrench) and it was hooked up correctly. Too be on the safe side, I connected the hoses together as you suggested, JSeery and then...

Re: High Oil Pressure?

Yes, it's the one that came out of the engine. Everything was good, so I just cleaned it and put it back.

Re: High Oil Pressure?

Yes, they're 3/8 - Red's Headers Full Flow Kit. In on the filter is going to out on the block and vise a versa, assuming the machinist did it the way the directions said.

Re: High Oil Pressure?

Ok, after a few delays, I have checked the gauge with 60#'s of air pressure and it held steady at 60. I pulled the relief valve - it seemed fine, but I went ahead and changed it out for the original...

Re: High Oil Pressure?

OK, I'll check the gauge first. The engine was rebuilt by an experienced mechanic - does lots of flatheads. The relief valve has a new spring (Mac's) and seemed ok when I put it in, but I guess I'll...

High Oil Pressure?

I've started my 221 several times now and all seems well except the oil pressure. I used a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my startup stand, as it's supposed to react faster. It shows pressure...

Re: Battery Box Issue

Thanks for the pic, G.M.. It answered several questions that I had. My truck will be a driver, so making my own tray seemed like a good option for me, too.

Battery Box Issue

I just started stripping stuff off the firewall when I hit a snag. Apparently the battery box is not only held in by rivets but 2 welds. In the picture you can see them where the paints knocked off...

Re: Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow

As the boss is where the sender was originally, then in and out should be like yours deuce_roadster, correct? The plug is a standard 3/8 NPT, so to put the sender back will take an adapter, if that...

Pressure Sending Unit w/Full Flow

I had my machinist install Red's Headers Full flow filter system. The 2 hoses hook up to the block where the pressure sending unit was. Is using the plug on the side, just below the hose fittings the...
