Re: Year model - packard

I just asked a local friend who is a noted Packard restorer and expert. His answer, "1939 V12 Brunn Landaulet." He also reports, "very expensive, with production around 20."

Re: So much for Irish Spring and Dryer Sheets.....

Back on Page 1, Richard Crow suggests the "walk the plank" mouse trap. I agree 100%. Baited with a little peanut butter, it is very effective. Two tips: If your garage gets below freezing, add...

Re: flathead mechanic

If Charlie rebuilt the carb, it's 100% not the carb. He's the best.

Re: need to sell

I am an avid "BaT" follower and it is a great venue for some cars. I suspect it probably would not be for this one for a couple reasons. First, you have to "apply" to have your car listed on BaT...

Re: ‘39 Merc All Terrain Vehicle???

Somehow, I'm reminded of the classic scene from "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" featuring Phil Silvers and a 1948 Ford Convertible. :-) See attached at 0:28 and again around 1:21. ...

Re: help for a friend

A 1982 Durango isn’t a Dodge. It’s a Ford. Sort of the successor to the Ranchero, based on a Fairmont platform. I’ll admit to having to Google it, because I don’t remember them at all.

Edit: ...

Re: Lowering rear on 32 roadster

I think what he is saying is he wants to increase the tire size, which will only exacerbate the height issue, so he wants to know what to do to the suspension to bring it down.

Re: Rebuilding my steering box

Regarding the alternative approach suggested, I have a spare completely rebuilt 41-48 car box. (Purchased it before I realized the shaft was too short for my Mercury, so just rebuilt mine instead) ...

Re: 40 Heater Motor

Philip-

As of a year ago, a gentleman by the name of Rick Bocchi rebuilds them. He goes by "flathead48" on the forum. I have been meaning to have him do mine, but I just haven't got around to...

Re: Fuel boiling at fuel pump

Bummer. I guess that's one advantage of N IL. (Another being a few degrees cooler) ;-)

Here in NW Illinois non-ethanol is pretty readily available. On most pumps, the 87 and 89 will say "10% ethanol added" and the highest octane (91 or 93) will either say "no alcohol added"...

Re: Old Henry

I'm kind of like that; I belong to a number of forums with different subjects (EF V8s, MGs, RVs, RC planes, garden tractors). As my activity level in each waxes and wanes, so does my corresponding...

Re: Coker classic radials.

Good to hear these reports, because I think I'm going to pull the trigger on some Coker radials in the next few weeks.

FYI, for those in the States, if you order through Summit Racing the...

Re: 35 Ford steering box

Mudflap,

If you have any interest in using a 41-48 box, I have one that is freshly rebuilt, never used. I bought it from someone not realizing Mercurys have a longer shaft. Ended up just having...

Re: Need Advice on a Fly/Drive Vacation Out West

Here's one more vote for southern Utah. September is the perfect time to do it. Zion, Bryce, Arches. Stunning.

Re: What needs to be done to use a floor starter button

Exactly. My '25 Dodge has a foot starter and I've never had a problem. Of course I also make it a practice not to stall it at stop signs pointed uphill, but that's another issue. It also makes a...

Re: 1947 Mercury Convertible door locks

Good to know, as mine are non functioning and are on my "when I get to it" list of things to replace.

On another note, Bob, I still need to make the trek over your way some weekend to see your...

Re: Ultrasound cleaners

I bought one from HF specifically for cleaning out a Vespa carb. It worked perfectly.

Just make sure the reservoir is big enough for whatever carb you intend to put in it.

Re: Cool older restoration of grandma's woodie convertible

Yes, definitely not a real Town and Country. On the real deal, the wood framing of the doors is flush with the rest of the body lines, while on this one it sticks out about an inch, showing that it...

Re: Iowa / ill. Fall current fall color update

Can't say for sure about Galena, but I'm about 70 miles south of Galena and most leaves are just starting to turn yellow. As Supereal said, we got dumped on yesterday and we're expecting another...
