Re: need a new 6 volt battery for my 1933

I have had two in my '51. The first lasted 13 years, and the current one is going on ten and still strong. In my experience, five and seven years is relatively young in Optima terms.

Re: Need car hauled from PA to Denver

Go get it yourself. I bought a '36 3-window in the early nineties that was is Longville, Texas. In my infinite wisdom, I bought a one-way ticket to Dallas (from Minneapolis) and rented a car to...

Re: Lifter info

Here's an interesting tidbit. I bought an unused Engle roller tappet cam and kit for the early hemi in my vintage dirt car. There were no specs with it. I called Engle and they said anything from...

Re: Redoing my hydrostatic fuel gauge with new red liquid

Hmmm. I found his description enlightening and quite clear. Although we all like pictures, the lack of them on this post did not detract from the information presented in the least.

Why so hard on...

Re: Lifter info

I use stock lifters whenever possible; I'm concerned about the quality and "holding power" of the current adjustables. "Set 'em and forget 'em".

I got my last set from "Southside Obsolete".

Re: 8BA Spark Plug thread length

That'll work as long as you don't mind shrouded plugs and a hit in performance.

One question : have you ever checked the spark plug fitment with the heads off? It should look like this.

Re: What amp battery is best or needed for V8's?

The only thing a reproduction battery is good for is to gut the case and put an Optima in it.

Re: 1938 battery

He is looking for a "period correct looking Ford script battery". If that's what he really wants, he should look into an Optima in a reproduction Ford script case and save a bunch of dough.

It...

If it ain't one thing, it's another. Looks like you've got it handled, though. Congratulations!

Re: Shoebox Air Filter question (beginner level)

The wing nut on top has nothing to do with removing the air cleaner; it just keeps it together. The actual mounting clamp is under the air cleaner on the driver's side and had a triangular shaped...

Re: What are these ???

When I got my very original '51 Club Coupe in 1987, it had one of those in the wire between the coil and the distributor. The car always ran a little sour back then, and removing the suppressor...

Re: 8BA Spark Plug thread length

The proper plugs for Offenhauser heads has been discussed here at great length. To make a long story short, it was determined that up until just recently, there was no such animal. They require about...

Re: 46 Ford neg battery cable

They make such things as "Battery Post Shins" for just this purpose. They may be a little hard to find, but I have a package I got someplace.

Re: Model 94 Carburetor advice

Unless you are skilled and experienced with these carburetors, I would suggest that you send the "91-99" to "Charlie ny" (who is on this forum) and move on to other things that need to be addressed.

Re: Generator field

You polarize the generator, not the voltage regulator or cut out.

Do we even know if the O/P has a stock cutout or has upgraded to a regulator?

From the sounds of it, he has a regulator.

Re: Oil Pump Rebuild Question

I seem to remember that (in 8BA's at least), the one measurement you could check was the clearance between the bottom plate and the ends of the gears. You checked it with "plasti-gage" and set it...

After looking for a used lathe with no success, I gave up and bought a cheap imported mini-lathe. It is 7X14 and turned out to be big enough for the simple things I need to do. I am a step below...

Re: National Drive Your V-8 Day, 6/18/22 !!

I'm celebrating my 80th birthday on Saturday with an informal gathering with a bunch of friends, both old and new. I'll be driving my '51 the entire day.

(It's going to be in the high 90's here in...
