Re: Finally some Cam Degree Numbers - Now what?

I appreciate the lesson in cam checking, but as the process has unfolded, I don't understand why more attention wasn't paid to the fact this cam ran fine in an earlier installation. It simply came...

Re: Finally some Cam Degree Numbers - Now what?

The gear came from a stash of apparently used V8 parts I bought over 10 years ago.

The cam came from a motor I ran in my '40 years ago.

Re: Finally some Cam Degree Numbers - Now what?

I'd have to be a LOT smarter to even consider that!

Re: Snyder 5.5 head

I would think the early patterns have paid for themselves many times over. It would be good PR if Snyder felt they owed the community a product enhancement. They are advertised as "original...

Re: Finally some Cam Degree Numbers - Now what?

Thanks Ron. I'm trying to utilize a cam that's been sitting for a number of years. Not trying for any performance over stock, just trying to get another one running. I seem to have come upon a...

Re: Finally some Cam Degree Numbers - Now what?

flatrod, I repeat from an earlier post, the cam ran fine in my car a number of years ago. The cam now is in another engine. The engine will not time correctly with a setup stock helmet type Ford...

Re: Snyder 5.5 head

Ditto to what Dave said. My 6:1 head has the same problem. I don't know why Tod has not corrected that. Functionally it's great, and really peps up a stock motor.

Re: Finally some Cam Degree Numbers - Now what?

Is the opinion the duration is 248 vs 260 due to the .014" lash? It seems logical to me. In any case, is the deviation from 260 durationan issue responsible for the extreme static advance I see at...

Re: installing a front crossmember

I'd like to add the importance of the 6 rivets on the top of the frame. They must be low profile, or you will have a interference issue with the front fenders.

Finally some Cam Degree Numbers - Now what?

I'm back, and have no idea what I am supposed to make out of the numbers. Here they are. If you recall I have been reluctant to pull the heads, and it was suggested I degree the exhaust valve on...

Re: Cam Degree wheel setup for V8 flathead

Exactly, that is why I am trying to avoid mounting directly on the end of the crank. I think ive got it figured out. I'm going to mount to the 4 bolts for the 39 -40 fan. I can turn the crank with...

Re: Cam Degree wheel setup for V8 flathead

Kurt, the only one I could find at Speedway that fit a flathead was the Offenhauser one that had the crank hub part of the wheel. Flathead crank is about 1.310" What did you find?

Cam Degree wheel setup for V8 flathead

I've been shopping for a degree wheel to check my cam, but have not seen anything size wise to fit either the crankshaft, or the '40 fan bolt pattern. Any recommendations?

Re: Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

Your the winner! The simplest and most clearly articulated for my feeble mind, thanks.

I have not degreed the cam yet. Got a lot going right now and it may be awhile.

Re: Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

About advancing the cam. The cam gear is a bolt on and will fit only one way. I would have to pull the cam and gear forward enough to clear the crank gear before I could retard the cam. All the...

Re: Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

Flatjack9, My light has no advance detection ability, so it can only work correctly or not work at all.

Brian, thanks for your patience. I will take your advice and try to degree the number one...

Re: Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

Bored&Stroked, Yes, it has 25* static advance and with RPM will hit 35* with the vacuum brake full on, bolt fully in. Keep in mind, the distributor thinks it is zero* at TDC, so I'm only getting 10*...
