Re: Correct replacement for Fram C181-A?
I've used C4 Fram on the flatheads. Also the name Kralinator K-55 sticks in my mind. Possibly was on the 39 Ford and that filter case had the t handle on top too.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
Thats a nice ad I've never seen before. Checked my fast moving parts catalogue and they don't have much to say about Mercury bumpers. This page pretty well sums it up.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
The front views show the difference in the 114 and 118. The 114 looks like a Ford with a Mercury grille. Which is pretty much what the 49 Meteor was. `

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
Checked my fast moving parts catalogue and it looks like long wheelbase cars got the 15 inch wheels while short wheelbase (114-116 inch) got the 16 inch wheels. Here is the page

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
We had a Ford Monarch dealership in town. Lincoln-Mercury and Meteor were a separate dealer from Ford- Monarch. i imagine its pretty confusing for those outside of Canada. I have enough trouble...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
The top of the line Meteor (Customline in 53, Rideau in 54) would have had the Mercury dash and instrument panel. Low line (Mainline) Meteors had the Ford dash. I can't comment on what Ford dash...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
Thats a 54 alright but totally different from the 52-53 Mercury and Meteor Customline dash. In fact I prefer the 52-53.
I discovered that I do have a shot of the dash of Andy's 53 Meteor Customline....

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
Never say it can't get worse because I'm pretty sure it can. For me its been a good year and I can't complain. I definitely have plans for more Mercury videos. Hoping to a winter view "follow" one...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
Yes, that is the book. I had not heard the author had passed on. I got mine at https://oldautos.ca/promotions/ and it looks like they still have copies listed for sale. There is also a section on...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
Your "Star" was a Canadian Meteor from what I have seen. I've always liked the Aussie "Utes" as well because we never had them here although a few built their own out of a sedan.

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
That would explain the "Cheviacs" too. Pontiacs with Chevy sheet metal and Pontiac engines. A neighbour had a nice 52 Pontiac coupe that looked a lot like a Chevy until you looked under the hood and...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
Yes, I've read there were trade issues over the border that were part of the reason the Meteor and Monarch came to be.
Ford kept it interesting. For 51 the Meteor got it's own grille, no longer...

Re: Canadian 1946-1948 Mercury 114
The reason was that Lincoln Mercury dealerships were separate from Ford. LM needed a car for the buyer that couldn't afford a Mercury or a Lincoln so the Meteor was introduced. The same dealership...
