Re: I did not know that......

The vent hole is non-existent on a distributor for marine use. I think the AMC marine engines used a flat cap styled like that used on the Ford crab distributor.

Re: Questions on Dwell

Re: spark plug recommendation

Charley: Back in the day with a 239 with my foot in it, I ran H-9 plugs with good success. The stock jet for the Stromberg 48 is .048 and I am thinking your use of .050 is too rich, hence the color...

Re: dist cap problems again

My father had a 47 Ford truck with a 59AB equipped with a rabbit ear cap. Moisture was a problem. I have used the helmet distributor on three 38 Fords and I could run a garden hose on the...

Re: Engine stumbles on acceleration

Set your plugs to .025 on a 6v system - try that. .035 is pretty wide.

Re: Coil readings what it it telling me

Check for voltage at coil neg terminal, which will indicate if ballast resistor and ignition which are a closed circuit. If the coil has voltage at negative terminal, then check for voltage at...

Re: Ignition Problem or Carb Problem

Pleased that you found the problem. I have had straps break off condensers, and a new condenser fail with a no start, but your problem was an education for me too.

Re: Ignition Problem or Carb Problem

You state that the spark is erratic when cranking like it is not hitting every cylinder. I still think that the points need looking into for spring tension and closing or binding. Points hanging...

Re: Ignition Problem or Carb Problem

I run ,045 mains with #71 PVs in dual 97s on a 221 at 500 feet above sea level. I think .047 is toooo rich. Also connect an ohmmeter to distributor terminal on coil and the other clip to ground and...

I am running a Max 1 cam in a 221 driving a 3.54 with 6.00 x 16 tires and the sweet spot is at 65mph. I am running in flat county and the acceleration is good.

Re: Spark Plug Fouling

I would be very careful in going to a hotter plug - punch a hole in a piston. I used to run H9s in place of H10s in an 8ba in the 50s and BF32s in place of BF42 in a 352 ci Ford. Had good...

Re: Distributer timing fixture

I would suggest that you set the points at .015 - .016” clearance with a feeler gauge and establish TDC on the crank pulley using the hard stop method, which has been outlined in previous posts. ...

Re: Tattersfield manifold with dual Strombergs

I have used standard main jets in 97s on a dual edelbrock manifold, but changed the power valves to #71 in place of #65s. With standard mains and 65 pvs, the engine would bog when the pvs were...

Re: Engine removal '38 deluxe

I have pulled the engine on a 38 and removed the hood, although you could support it straight up and did not remove the grill - removed the radiator. I made a lift hook that is a piece of angle iron...

Re: Spark plug wire terminal - Crimp, Solder, or neither?

I strip off 1/2” of insulation, insert the bare wire thru to hole in the terminal, fold the wire over and insert into the distributor cap. Bare wire tightens the connection.

Re: Clutch finger adjustment in car

I have adjusted the fingers on a 9” in a V8. Yes, it is close, but I tied a line to the open end wrench to retrieve it in the event that it got dropped. Did not want to pull the transmission.
