Re: Winfield su1a
Winfield's R1 cam was always advertised as a "3/4 Race" cam.
Much has been lost in translation over The last 50 years.

Re: Winfield su1a
I ran a Winfield R1 in a 59A 60 years ago.
The idle was smooth as the stock cam.
A real Winfield, not a copy. A stock 8CM or EAB cam would probably perform better.

Re: 1946-1948 Mercury Dash Boards
Yes this is correct.
Different color plastic for different years. '42 & maybe '46 being tan plastic, '48's that I've seen have been a "silver grey"

Re: sealed bearing fan hub
Why re invent the wheel ?
The stock 1949 V8 passenger car fan has a sealed bearing, four blade fan & a wide belt pulley.
They inter change with the 59A stuff, plus they are available.

Re: What color was the 1946 Mercury engine.
To answer the original question.
'42 thru '48 Mercury engines were dark blue.
'46 thru early '49 Ford passenger car engines were dark blue.
Strange how these posts go sideways.

Re: Intake bolts THICK
Mike says.
Finally I bit the bullet and had some thick headed intake bolts made. Roy made these years ago but had been out of them for years due to the cost these days to make such items.

Re: Banjo hub bearing seat cracked
That is a sheet metal piece that is replaceable.
If your hub & drum is good, buy a junk hub just for the piece.
I have seen that piece on E-bay in the past.
