Re: Help with an engine noise...
Tom,
Thanks for the follow up. Might check the U joint while it is apart and change it out if there is any play. Let us know when you are back together and running. Would like to know exactly how...

Re: Benefits of a thermostat?
Not a big deal during the summer. In cold weather when an engine never warms to normal operating temperature it tends to run rich which results in higher fuel consumption. A more significant issue...

Re: Adding Guages
It wouid be worthwhile to at least have an idiot light for oil pressure (IMHO). Another scenario to the ones you cited would be engine oil level is very low or crankcase is empty. The engine would...

Re: King pin replace
Concur with Bill. I would prefer to buy special tools and try and do the job rather than farm it out. Experience is a great teacher. Just my $.02.

Re: Reducing Steering Free Play
Might also ensure the Pittman arm is solidly clamped to the sector shaft. Look at the connection closely while rocking the steering wheel. Even a minute amount of looseness will result in...

Re: King pin replace
Yes, did it. Be sure to replace the bushings in a sequence. After pressing in one new bushing, run the reamer through the old bushing into the new bushing so the bore is centered. After pressing...

Re: Cause of Blow By
A first step would be a compression check to assess ring performance. Maybe try some Seafoam if case the rings are just stuck. Let us know how it goes.

Re: 31 Universal Joint is it original or repro
Either original or a very good repro. More likely domestic rather than off shore. Also the more desirable spider type rather than the riveted variety. If no rotational play it would be a good...

Must be 70+ to really appreciate this one.

Re: Troubleshooting advice
Sticking valves is a high probability. Recommend dripping Marvel Mystery Oil directly into the carb intake at elevated rpm and also puting MMO in the fuel tank (4 oz. for full tank).

Re: 2-3 Shift Point Speed
Problem solved. Turns out I was not using enough advance. Typically I start full up on the timing lever and drop down to 1/3 to drive. Tried 7/8 to full advance and it runs fine at 20 mpg. At...

2-3 Shift Point Speed
Shifting the old 31 Tudor from first to second can be done at a very slow speed with no problem. My question is the second to third shift. My engine lugs if I shift much below 30mph which makes me...

Re: Does Your A Start Right UP?

Re: Gland rings
They install easy enough so they should be used. If the install was as difficult as putting socks on a rooster I would not bother since the benefit is probably minimal.
