Re: Patina or Paint?

I did the "aging" process myself using a combination of white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and salt in a spray bottle. It's sort of a trial and error process until you get the desired finish.

Re: Patina or Paint?

Thanks, they are metal clad. They are 3/4" plywood with 1x1x1/8" angle iron frames and a 20 gauge sheet metal face that the signs are painted on. I'm not one for varnished wood sideboards on...

Re: Patina or Paint?

I didn't want fake door signs painted on my 32 pu, but I made sideboards, had a local sign painter letter them and then fake patina'd them to match the truck. It's not for everyone, but I like it.

Re: Hydraulic brake questions - 1932 Coupe

I've had this 32 pickup for a while. It had been hot rodded in the 50's. Most of the chassis was still pretty nice, but they got a torch after the K-member for some reason. I had the drivetrain out...

Re: Hydraulic brake questions - 1932 Coupe

I would consider repairing or having someone repair the existing K-member and go back to stock 32 pedals. You can find damaged K-members or pieces for repair sections. I repaired a cut up K-member...

Re: Who is dropping headlight bars out there?

I did the same last year. Put a note and cash in the box. 3 months later I got them back dropped. Always worth the wait.

Re: 1932 Ford Hudson steering box

Here are some pics of the 55-59 Chevy pickup box that I found on the web. I have a friend that has one in a Model A roadster and loves it.

Not sure how the column tube is attached. That may need...

Re: Steering box light switch

I'm curious what bail "C" is?

Is it to use a 28-36 bulb without dimples with a 37-39 bracket?

Thanks,

Neal

Re: Fuel boiling at fuel pump

Yes, fuel bowl was full. And tank was filled 20 miles prior.

Bringing this up, as I experienced this yesterday. I drove 40 freeway miles with no problem, then drove through town, stop light to stop light, then pulled into the In-N-Out Burger drive through...

Re: Steering binding on '46

Sounds like a worn worm. The worm tends to wear in the center. If he attempted to adjust the lash in the center, it would then make the ends too tight. Replace the worm with a new one.

Re: Parts suppliers during the virus

I am backlogged on steering box rebuilds at an all time high. To make things worse, the common Timken steering box bearings (5BC) are back ordered right now with no ETA. Might have to go to another...

Re: 1932 "survivoration"

I put this 32 sedan back on the road wearing the remnants of original paint. The car was mostly complete, but I still had to find some matching original pieces and fake in a few small parts to match....

Re: Split rim, wide 5?

I have one of the split rim wide 5 wheels as well. They are not 39-41 3/4-ton, as those are 16x5 and 16x5.5 standard drop center rims. Those wheels do look like they used the 3/4-ton center.

Re: Lathe with 3 Ford transmissions in Iowa

That's one of the cleanest transmission conversions that I've seen on a machine tool. Looks like it belonged there.

Back to the lathe with 3 transmissions. Are those large brake drums that they...
