Re: sign of the times

I got my drivers license in my '37 Ford on my 16th birthday in NJ. There were not many cars with automatic transmissions then but if you took your driving test with one it was noted on the license...

Re: Relocate battery in ‘35

I'm 89 and have much of the same problem. What I've done is replace the heavy wet cell batteries with Optima batteries located in the same places. They are much lighter and require zero maintenance....

Re: VE Day May 8th 1945

I remember VE Day well. My father was driving our '39 Plymouth with my mother, sister and me near Lake Hopatcong, NJ. They were firing cannons over the lake. The noise was deafening.

I installed leakless waterpumps in both of my '28 A's at least 10 years ago and have never had any problems with either of them.

Re: 30 Model A engine rebuild

I would highly recommend Ross Lilleker in College Station, Texas. He rebabbited and rebuilt the engine in my '28 roadster engine about 22 years ago and it is still running great. I had him help me...

Re: Motor Meter or Quail

Some years/decades ago my wife and I were on an annual Texas T Party tour in Fredericksburg Texas. One night every T at the host hotel that had a Moto-meter type radiator cap lost it. We were lucky...

Re: Car Is Shrinking........

Keith, That's interesting, I sold my early OCPU in March last year for the same reason that you sold your Phaeton. The guy I sold it to calls me once in a while but has never complained about this.

Re: Car Is Shrinking........

I'm 89 years old and 5 feet, 9 inches tall. My oldest son gave me several car cushions that are about 3 inches thick. On my '28 and '34 roadsters I step on the running boards and slip into the...

Re: Leaking gas tank

I bought my early '28 OCPU and my '28 roadster in the early 1990's. I was advised at that time to never grab onto the steering wheel when getting into a Model A. I never have and so far this has...

Re: Wind Wing installation

I'm with Wick on this. My '28 and '34 roadsters have wind-wings and I've had a lot of trouble losing and reinstalling them and It's a 2 person job. Two sided automotive tape has solved these problems...

Re: Hagerty Roadside Asssitance

Many thanks, I'm sure glad that I read this thread.
I've had Hagerty insurance on my old Fords for decades and had my '37 flat-bedded about 4 miles to my workshop/garage about two weeks ago. I just...

Re: Water in gas

I wrote that I would report back so here goes.

My 16-year-old great-grandson volunteered to help me with my car. We started yesterday morning. The first thing we did was to double check the...

Re: Water in gas

Thanks for all of your thoughtful and helpful suggestions.

I’m quite sure that I don’t have an ignition problem because I get a good spark when cranking the engine with one of the sparkplugs...

Re: Water in gas

Many thanks for your helpful responses.

I found my 1937 Ford book and it shows on page 5-8 where the drain outlets are located on the carburetor and fuel pump. I plan to drain both as soon as I’m...

Water in gas

About a year and a half ago I filled the tank in my original, unrestored 1937 Ford Fordor Touring Sedan with Shell Regular. I’m 89 years old and came down with some medical issues shortly after that...

We did that too but I don't remember getting paid for it. I was in the Cub Scouts and later the Boy Scouts and we went on scrap drives on weekends and collected paper, scrap metal and other...

Re: Remember Pearl Harbor

I was 7 years old when that happened. I don't remember much of that day but a lot from Monday, the 8th. I lived in NJ and was in the second grade. While waiting for our school to open the 6th graders...

Re: My First Flathead! 35 Standard

I installed a Mallory crab type distributor on my '34 some years ago because I couldn't get the original one to work. I bought that distributor from Patrick's in Arizona. After 5k miles or so the...

Re: Recognition well deserved...

I'm 89 and was a cold war draftee. I spent most of the time in Germany. My wife found my old OD army jacket yesterday and I tried it on but it didn't fit. I really respect those who fought in the...

Re: 32-34 Tie Rod End Repair Kits

I use E-Z Steer Teflon repair kits on both of my '28 A's and my '34 roadster. They make the steering much easier for this 89 year-old.

Timing Problem

I took my ’28 roadster for a short drive last week. It started right up and ran well. The next day I backed it out of the barn and shut it off while 2 passengers got in it. I restarted the engine and...

Re: Remember 9/11/01

I will always remember 9/11. I lived in Houston and my wife and I were “glued” to the TV for hours. I also remember Pearl Harbor. I lived in NJ then and was in the second grade. On Monday all the...

Re: "New Engine" driven to Deadhorse (Prudhoe Bay), Alaska

Dave, your trip absolutely amazes me. Some years ago, my wife and I drove our 2005 Chevy Avalanche about 20 miles or so to a primitive RV park around 20 or 30 miles north of Coldfoot. We were...

Re: Thinking of getting a Model T

Another choice could be Liliker's in College Station, Texas. He did a great job rebuilding the engine in my Model A roadster around 15 years ago. mrmodelt.com

Re: How Old Is Too Old?

I'm nearly 89 but I still drive my T's, A's and early V8's. All are stock with no mods to make them easy to drive. They are kept in a rural area and only driven on back country roads. I had my left...
