Re: Positive ground tach

I hooked up my old Sears engine analyzer from the "70's to my model A truck and it worked just fine. Tach and dwell. I think I just reversed the leads so that the black clip went to the coil and red...

Re: What head is this?

I was trying to figure out what that pump was below the alternator, then I saw the A/C blower unit in the cabin. Are these common? Seems like a big draw on a low HP engine. How much could the fancy...

Re: Model A Marine Engine?

Here's a brochure of engine models. I think they offered the model A engine up through the 1950's.

Re: Model A Marine Engine?

I was so intrigued by that model A marine engine that I looked up the stats. It was used by Chris Craft back in the day and put out a whopping 60 HP at 3200 RPM. It was succeeded by the B engine but...

Re: Just bought a 31 roadster- Questions 1 at a time

That fan can be "wall art" . Please don't try to use it, Snyders has new ones that won't come apart and damage the radiator or hood, or a person. There's visible rust under the paint.

Re: Hot Rod Engine

What kind of horsepower would something like that put out? I guess anything above the stock 20 HP would be noticeable. I like the water jacket.

Re: Fairfield Garage

Thanks Mercman for helping those of us with eyesight that's seen better days. It's easier than using the magnifier function LOL. I'm glad to see an old building like that still in use, modern...

Re: water pump impeller

I went through this when I first bought my T. It came with two water pumps, both different brands and both needed parts to work. It made more sense for me to buy a new one from Snyders and be done...

Re: Model A tech advisors team from Paul Shinn

I too have Paul to thank for getting me interested in Model A's... and Model T's as a matter of fact. He did a video comparing the two cars. I find his videos easy to relate to. Now, I just need to...

I'm sure this one started with "Hey...I've got a great idea".

Re: Rough road

I've seen you tube videos of Model T's being abused on rough roads, deep snow, going down loose dirt declines, crossing streams, etc. They were saying they can take the punishment because there were...

Re: Pre Osha

That Zeppelin photo looks scary. The three men on the ladders must be very brave...or hard up for cash. Although the men down below don't have it so good if someone drops a wrench, or decides to...

Re: Fantastic picyure

At least the A has a better suspension than the Harley. Preparation H was from the thirties too. Hardtail Harley...they put the "H" in preparation H.

What about AA's? They are model A's too! Times two!

Re: Ford Model AA Duel Rear Axles

Something looks amiss in picture three. Does that spring shackle look right? I never saw a setup like that.

Re: Ford Model AA Duel Rear Axles

Extra tires and leaves added to the leaf springs could certainly handle excessive weight, but were the frames strong enough? How did the 4 bangers handle a load of coal like that? I've heard stories...

Re: Fan catastrophe avoided

Sounds simple to you, but not something the average Joe can do. And what certainty would someone have that it was really done correctly if we trust someone else to do the job? My original fan looked...

Re: Synthetic oil in a Model A

It's a matter of preference. I've seen people go back and forth and swear by straight 30w or 10w 30, or 20w 50, or straight 40 weight. Synthetic, non-synthetic, etc. It really depends on where you...

Re: Loose threads

Aluminum threads and steel bolts or sparkplugs are a recipe for disaster. I've dealt with many machines with aluminum blocks and stainless steel bolts. Usually they came with Heli-coiled threaded...

Re: 57 Merc data decode and identification

Interesting that some 1957 Mercs had single headlights and later 1957 models had four. Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler also made the jump to four headlights in '57. I heard some states did not approve this...

Re: Another Number found on my block

Same thing on my block. There were so many Model A's out there, even Sears and Montgomery Wards sold rebuilt model A engines.

Re: New tie rod bushings too big to fit

That’s a good point. The bushing that came out did look thinner than the new one but there wasn’t that much slop. It could have been put there to shim it up. I’ll take another look. Thanks

Re: OT - will this old engine analyzer work on Model A's?

The old analog meters are nice and that's what I learned on, but as others have said, it's very important to have the dials and switches properly set up before the leads are connected. I have blown...
