Re: Yblock valves

Ted Eaton (eatonbalancing.com) routinely installs hardened exhaust-valve seats when rebuilding engines. He doesn't take shortcuts because he backs his work. If your car is seldom driven, hardened...

Re: 1955 Ford speedo driven gear.

My 55 T-bird/w Fordomatic, OEM 3.31 gears, and 205/75R15 tires was about 10 mph fast at an indicated 65 mph, which is about 15%. I think it's common. Accessibility on the T-bird is really tight. One...

Re: 1957 Thunderbird Shocks

I have Bilsteins on my 55 T-bird. However, I did put KYBs on my 1988 Mustang 5.0. They're a bit on the stiff side, but I think they're a good value. My car is still under restoration, so I can't...

Re: NEED help

Was the transmission slipping before the engine overheated?

Re: Wire Wheel Tires with Radisl tires

"Tubeless" tires weren't designed to be used with tubes. Tubeless tires gradually lose air when punctured. Tubes pop like a balloon when punctured, losing all the air at once (not good). It was...

Re: 1984 Mustang

Not common when new. However, I would not be surprised by rattling on any vehicle that is 37 years old and has almost 500, 000 km.

Although my 1988 Mustang didn't rattle, something seemed amiss...

Re: AOD transmission in a '67 mustang

You probably will find more information on vehicle-specific forums.

Re: engine knocking 292

Is it a knock, or a ping? Pinging sounds more like a rattle than a knock. Does it run on after shutting it down? I don't think the problem can be adequately diagnosed remotely. It will require...

Re: engine knocking 292

Depending upon your location, it might be easier to tune your engine than to find a convenient ethanol-free gas station.

Re: 1983 Mercury Capri--

Hopefully, Flowmasters have improved. All that I've heard, with the exception of cat-back systems, sound like marbles rattling around inside of a can. I don't care for the metallic sound.

Re: 1983 Mercury Capri--

I'm pretty sure 1985 was the first year for a true dual-exhaust system for the 5.0 Mustang, and the last year for a carburetor. If your car has true dual exhausts, they're aftermarket. Moe than...

Re: 1983 Mercury Capri--

I thought my OEM 88 5.0 Mustang's exhaust sounded nice. I don't know if they are being reproduced. Being stainless, they were still on the car when I sold it with 188,000 miles.

You might also...

Re: Increasing RPMs when shifting Fordomatic into Drive

I think 450 rpm in neutral is low. 400 rpm in gear should be about right.

Re: 8 Ford ring and pinion ratios

An 8" in good condition can handle up to 300 hp with no problem. There are no carrier breaks, so you can use any available ring and pinion gear ratios without changing carriers.

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

How about 2 boots on opposite corners? More effective than the bumper sticker.

Re: Increasing RPMs when shifting Fordomatic into Drive

Yes, there is. It's called transmission slip.

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

If you own a car that somebody is willing to kill you for, it doesn't matter where you live, and you probably don't live on the wrong side of the tracks.

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

Use a gun, go to prison and/or lose your car, and more, in civil court. You might also lose your life if the guy stealing your car is also armed, more willing to shoot, and a better shot.

Re: My 56 Transmission need rebuilt?

Only one automatic transmission available for the 57 T-bird, which was the liquid-cooled Fordomatic. All 55 and early 56 T-birds had the air-cooled Fordomatic. There were no other automatic...

Re: My 56 Transmission need rebuilt?

Flat-O Products has a C4-to-Y-block conversion kit. Installing an AOD is more complicated and requires notching the frame for clearance, but overdrive is preferable if you retain the stock 3.31 rear...

Re: 8 Ford ring and pinion ratios

Keep in mind that the mustangattitude list may include ratios for the 7 1/4" rear axle used on 6-cylinder car, the 9" used on K-code HP 289, as well as those for the 8". I think the 3.00 is the most...

Re: 8 Ford ring and pinion ratios

If you want to know what new parts are currently available, just go to Summit Racing and search Ford 8" ring and pinion gears. My wife's cousin's husband has 3.50 gears in his 64 1/2 Mustang...

Re: 55-57 Upper Ball Joint

According to Gil Baumgartner (CTCI-Gil's Garage), the ball joints don't have the Ford logo. He would know.
