Re: 1957 Ford Country Sedan Transmission Question

If it's the original style trans, if you go full throttle right away, it will start in 1st gear and shift to 2nd as soon as you let up.

Re: Yard art 28 coupe

But, but, he did CHECK the oil before starting! No oil change. No attempt to fill the dipper tray, nor to get oil to the mains. No mention of checking or changing gear oil either. Although, he did...

Re: So why did Ford go from 21" wheels to 19" wheels?

14" came out in '57. The first Falcons were 13", I believe.

Re: Removing the cam on a Model A

I was just going to say the same thing. A lifter breaks in together with its cam lobe. Putting a worn/used lifter on a new cam means the mating surfaces no longer match.
Besides, all the fiddling...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Hi Gary, My apologies for seeming to make light of your career. That was not my intent. I just wanted to show an example of an occupation that went from being labor intensive to becoming...

Re: 41 Ford SuperDeluxe - V8 Rings stuck (again)

Since this a temporary fix to drive the car, you don't need to spend a small fortune pulling the engine to inspect, magna flux, etc., etc. I'd suggest pulling the other head and flushing the water...

Re: tell a Model A related story

"Affluence. Squander and extravagance." Isn't that a fact! But I sometimes wonder if that isn't a necessary by-product of technology, needed to keep people employed, thus feeding their families. ...

Well, I was not even close! (Shouldn't have read so many JC Whitney

Re: Heyer Start-A-Car

I'm just guessing here, but what comes to my mind is what I call an ignition buzz box. This puts out a constant high voltage spark (like a Model T coil). The output lead goes in the center terminal...

Re: Engine priming/oiling BEST ideas.

In my experience, DO NOT use Lubriplate or similar as assembly lube, especially if the engine will sit awhile. Also, the cylinder walls, piston pins, cam lobes and lifters all depend on splash...

Re: Corn Head Grease Use

A corn head is an attachment on the front of a farm machine called a combine. As the combine travels through a cornfield the corn head snaps the ears off the stalks and sends them to the threshing...

Re: Torque wrench

Maybe a few drops of oil on the head would help after sitting so long.

Re: Model A police car pictures needed

To quote a popular Youtube site: "Well, I'll be dipped!" I wonder though, if the radios mentioned in this 1931 bulletin were actually two way. All the references I found said the first two way...

Re: Model A police car pictures needed

The first two way police radios were in March of 1933 so maybe the optional low speed generators were for the extra lights, plus I imagine the cars did a lot of idling and low speed patrolling.

Re: Multiple Oil Leaks after sitting?

Auto parts store have inexpensive kits for tracing leaks. They have a dye to add to the oil, a special flashlight and tinted goggles. Run the engine and watch for leaks. Don't drive the car while...

Re: Exhaust and Intake Manifold Decking

I wonder if it's possible to "get the angle of the carburetor canted off center" enough to affect the float level to a measurable degree? The purpose of resurfacing is to get a flat surface so that...

Re: Tuning issue- seeking thoughts

A restricted air cleaner would make it run rich, so pulling out the choke would make the problem worse. If the fuel pump were weak, pulling out the choke would only help momentarily. In addition to...

Re: New guy with a 1952 Flathead

The Chevy point type distributor conversion works well, especially with the different carb you have on it. The original distributor spark advance will not work with a non-original carb.
The 8BA...
