Re: Front Cross Member Question

My Coupe has 50,000 miles on a bolted-in front crossmember. However the bolts are line fit into their holes for excellent shear, and the bolts are a high tensile strength for tension. There are not...

Re: One Or All 4?

Do not conclude the engine needs rebuilding / overhaul until you have evidence that supports it. Valve guides are a source of oil, and it may be that the rings in Cyl 1 have not seated yet. I suggest...

Re: Fuel/air mixture setting

(1) Last step in a tuneup is carburetor adjustment, so ignition refresh including timing comes first;
(2) Engine at operating temperature & GAV 1/4 turn open;
(3) Starting at 1.5 turns open, turn...

Re: Gas Tank Cutaway Photos

Brent,
I need pictures of the interior yank at the locations of the steering support and the shutoff valve in 1928-'29 and in 1930-'31 tanks. Thank you Brent and all of the others who contributed to...

Gas Tank Cutaway Photos

I have some photos by Brent Terry of cutaway gas tanks. Are there any others available for posting here. I am building a presentation for my Model "A" club about gas tanks and I need more photos of...

Re: 1931 Model A Ball Joints

Over the years I have seen 3 techniques to salvage suspension ball joints; (1) Saw -off and weld on a new ball; (2) Machine the existing ball into a cylinder and fit plus weld a new ball with a hole...

Re: model b engine cm gear

Not true about Diamond blocks being thicker. I have both and see no difference. The Diamond is an aftermarket casting house's trademark.

Re: Is my block dead?

I have seen cracks repaired with JB Weld that are still running after many years.

(1)Find the ends of the crack, drill a 0/13" diameter stop hole at each end. The stop holes will inhibit...

Re: Victoria with moveable stick shift

The shift lever trick was more of a V8 Ford thing because of the weaker spring. In 2nd gear or reverse, the gear shift lever in a Model "A" is almost up against the gas tank, so snuggling up with...

Re: model b engine cm gear

The Model "A" & Model "B" use the same camshaft gear.

Re: Victoria with moveable stick shift

The problem is getting the gear shift lever to reengage the shift forks. Also, the Model "A" has a much stiffer gear shift tower spring than the V8 Fords, so it is much more difficult to disengage /...

Get a plain reproduction radiator cap and drill a hole in it that accommodates your motometer.

Re: Longest trip yet...MPG suck!

I have a 45B Deluxe Coupe and a 190A Victoria Coupe. Both have Model "B" engines with Model "A" Zenith carburetors, and no overdrive. Both have stock 3.78:1 differentials. The 45B has a 4.6:1...

Call Classtique and ask for Mike. Explain what you want to do including installing a new headliner.

Re: Cabriolet 68-C vacuum line routing and installation

The routing for slant windshield cars I believe is the same. This is the routing of the original vacuum line in my 190A Victoria.

Re: Ignition switch question

The battery connects to the coil, and the ignition switch is situated between the coil and ignition points.

Re: Zenith carb

Typically, the cause of the engine running roughly or stalling when the car comes to a stop is the gasoline level in the float bowl is too low. As the car decelerates to a stop, gasoline surges...

Re: Starting the Model A with a crank

Vern, I know about the wire on the choke arm, but it is unsightly to leave it in place, plus it can damage the fins on the radiator. The GAV needs to be adjusted anyway, so I use a clamp to prime the...

Re: Carb wicking

The engine sits in the frame at a 3-degree slope to match the drive-line angle, so the carburetor is level at this angle.

There has been trouble with poor fitting gaskets. Also there are vent...

Re: Wheel bearing preload

There is no preload on the wheel bearings! There should be some play to allow for thermal expansion. Preloading the bearings increases the normal force which increases the bearings kinetic friction...

Re: 28/29 versus 30/31

I like the styling of all Model A's & AA's, but judging by the number of service bulletins and service letters from the branches, the Model A's design reached its pinnacle in 1930 & 1931 vehicles....
