Re: Question for ‘39 pickup experts

Not even close. Your looking for a piece with a slightly flat elliptical shape and rolled edges that affix to the clips.

Re: Vlaue of a 390

Around here a non running FE engine goes for $100-$300. These were good engines and Ford made millions of them from '58 thru the late '60's. Their big and heavy and unless you have a vehicle that...

Re: ID help with this engine

While I agree that most 59 series engines will fail the pencil test, there are early 59 series that will pass the test. Every one I have seen started out with a 3 1/16 bore and most were factory...

Re: Two Piece Oil Pans? When were they made?

I have no date when these were released but I believe it was for the 59 AB trucks with the larger clutch. I have a few on the shelf and can snap some photos if you want to see what they look like.

Re: Lincoln V12 a crap engine?

They were not a lugger, more like a V8 60 that likes higher RPM. Most big cars from that era were high torque motors that ran fine in high gear at lower speeds. That type of driving was not conducive...

Re: Chrome plating in oregon washington

I heard that Oregon Plating recently closed but if this is wrong, I have used them in the past but be prepared for a long wait and they were quite costly. I was not aware that Eastside did chrome...

Re: side view mirror

Not to be contradictory but I have a passenger side mirror on my '39 pickup and it gives a good field of view.

Re: 215 85 16s

The 205-80's are 6 ply, 4 polyester and 2 steel. They are made in the UK and my tire guy said they were used on Range Rovers back in the '90's. I don't think they are made anymore.

Re: 215 85 16s

I'm running the 205-16's on 4" wide rims. They don't looked pinched to me and ride good. I have a set of 5" wide Zephyr wide 5's that I thought about putting these Michelins on but they seem to work...

Re: 215 85 16s

No, I'm running tubes. Too many rivets in the wide 5 to make me feel comfortable with tubeless.

Re: 215 85 16s

I'm running 205 80R 16's Michelin's on my '39 pickup. Can't seem to wear them out.

Re: 36 Ford 4 door sedan drag link question

You might be able to rotate the adjustment sleeve away from the pan but the Mercury pan was never a great choice for this application. Try looking for a '48 thru '50 pickup pan. These are also known...

Re: Dual 94's?

I'm not sure your Loadmatic distributor will get the proper vacuum signal from this setup.

Re: The "W" Block

I don't know when the "L" block was released but I imagine it was after 1945. I have seen "L" blocks in both factory relieved and non relieved variants. Usually the relieved blocks were used in...

Re: The "W" Block

Never heard of a "W" block but the "L" block in the 59 series was noted for having thicker cylinder walls, hence could take a larger overbore. Off set ground Mercury cranks were common and I have...

Re: 1938 truck door latch problem

You don't indicate if the door will open from the inside but I presume it won't so you will have to remove the interior door panel which will give you easy access to the pull rod from the handle....

Re: Scat vs Merc crank

I think the message here is to look for a real Merc crank.

Re: 38 ford pickup

The easiest is to use those that were stock on your '38 thru 59 series engine. Clears the steering box and you can run duals or stock. You can use the 8BA manifolds but with the front crossover this...

Re: 38 ford pickup oil pan / exhausts. n

The pickup pan I referred to is also referred to as a "step pan" due to the contours from the sump towards the front resembling a set of stair steps. I have seen these on '48-'51 F1 pickups. The ...

Re: 38 ford pickup oil pan / exhausts. n

Your description of what is hitting where is a bit confusing. If you are using a 8BA from a passenger car, it has a center sump pan and this will interfere with the steering drag link. Most use the...

Re: 361 Engine Knock

I would drain the oil into a clean pan. While this is going on, pull the timing cover and take a close look at the cover as well as the gear to see if there are any signs of contact. If you don't see...

Re: 361 Engine Knock

The original timing gear had a flange whereas many replacement gears have the spacer. If you installed a new gear without the spacer, this usually causes a knock as the gear bounces off the timing...

Re: 50's Fords in old movies

That spare on the rear was called a Coronado Kit.
