Re: Banger posi traction

I've welded up side gears, mostly for myself. I was only interested in going in a straight line. The whole car will argue trying to go around a corner. It was a bit of a relief when I could spring...

Re: Consensus of opinion

Generators are simpler and usually more dependable than an alternator.

I've repaired both for 6 decades. Its usually easier to fix the generator.

Generators on old cars as what they came with...

Re: Best choke for downdraft carb?

Yes, you'll need a choke. I've never seen a 97 without a choke. It can be manual or coil spring heat coil addition, your choice.

Re: Do you take your Model A to the local self serve car wash?

The old roadster doesn't like the automatic car washes. Well actually, the car doesn't care. But I do since the top is always down and I don't like getting soapy and slapped around.

Re: Consensus of opinion

Generator with preferably an EVR. [ and 6v or 12v makes no difference]

An alternator on an 'A' just ain't right. JMHO.

Re: Motor does not pull properly, has no power ...

Advance. The full range should be 40*. If you are starting at 8* retarded and only going to 22* you have 22* BTDC not 30*.
While I think 40* is too much, 22* is not enough.
If the timing is set at...

Re: Motor does not pull properly, has no power ...

How much sand got into the other carburetor ?

I too would recommend a compression test.

Is the distributor advance working correctly ? [ I know you set the base timing]

Has the camshaft...

Re: What can you do with a shop press?

Like Bill said, you'll find all kinds of things to do with it. You'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Re: attack of electrical gremlins

7 amps seems pretty high to me unless you do a lot of night driving.

I think a 2nd heavy ground wire is a good thing.

Re: Position of the spark lever question

You might want to check/set the base timing. It should be at TDC [ or pretty close].

Then when starting the spark lever is up [ TDC ].

Throttle lever down a few notches

Start cranking the...

Re: How Fast?

Apparently something is wrong.
Where are you setting the timing and GAV ?

Does the advance linkage work its full range?
Does the throttle linkage open fully ?

Sure thats what they would say. There are many that are in favor of the resistors.

From my responses it obvious I'm not. But, my concern seems different from yours. I want the brightness the rear...

Re: Wheel Bearing Repacking Interval

Yep, I've seen fellas improperly pack bearings for decades, as well as adjusting.

Greases have improved drastically over the years and so have the roads. So they don't need to be done as often....

Re: Stymied

You mentioned changing intakes, how did they line up with the exhaust ? Just thinking out loud. I'm pretty sure you checked them and looked them over for cracks.

Re: Brake service rod

Looks like you need a couple rods.

What happened ? Does it look like someone ground them off or something ?

Re: Wheel Bearing Repacking Interval

Thats how I understand it.

With the grease and roads of the day it makes/made sense.

Re: Smokin

As previously stated, the normal 'A' wiring diagram is all thats needed. No difference in 6v vs 12v except polarity, coil[maybe] and bulbs.

Points are grounded the same as the battery whether + or...
