Re: 2019 f150 5.4

In my experience, the dealer doesn't even want to help the cash customer (unless they can fleece him for repairs that weren't necessary). As far as internal service department personnel assignments...

Re: 2019 f150 5.4

Ford offered a 4.2 litre V6, a 4.6 litre V6 and a 5.4 litre V8 in the F150's of the era.
I bought my 2007 F150 new and never lost a drop of oil. Last oil change was 54K miles in Oct of this year....

Re: speedo gear-in tranny

Sorry everyone, Iwas confusing him with another one of the guys here that has a '55, but I went to his profile later and noticed he has a '57 Country Sedan wagon.
So yes, it is a 100% bolt in swap...

Re: Driver Door Sticking

The factory used a shim or shims cutout from asbestos-fibre cement sheets or slabs. They manufactured a few different thicknesses to be mixed as needed depending upon whether the factory had a...

Re: Driver Door Sticking

I have two '55 Fords and have had one '56 Ford hardtop in the past. None of the doors were right on them and I seriously doubt they were ever molested from the factory adjustment.
When you consider...

Re: Driver Door Sticking

Aside from checking the hinges first, I would look at the number of shims behind the striker plate. Ultimately, you want the "star-wheel" on the door lock assembly to fit squarely with the teeth on...

Re: Sensor cable to brake backplate - 2007 F150?

Not panicked, just wanted to know what to expect if I tried to move the truck without the sensor cable hooked up, or if even the vehicle would move at all. Later, I went out there and was able to...

Re: Rear parking brake lever

100% correct. The cable just lays in the "U" shaped trough and is held in place by the little spring. I never knew one to jump out in my 50 plus years of driving.

Re: Sensor cable to brake backplate - 2007 F150?

BTW, the two used tires I bought were new in 2014, seven years old and they have almost no tread left on them. When I took them to the tire change shop, the attendant told me that if I had brought...

Re: Sensor cable to brake backplate - 2007 F150?

Thanx to all who answered my questions about the brake system. I'll need to back up here and tell what my intention is. The truck is in State police impound lot (although, since it is awaiting...

Sensor cable to brake backplate - 2007 F150?

I believe this is for the anti-lock brake system, but don't know what this does or how it causes the brakes to operate.
I bought this 2007 F150 XL (white work package) new at a dealer and kept it in...

Re: My 56 Thunderbird transmission Leaks?

I had placed my '55 Courier with 223 I-block 6/Ford-o-matic in mothballs for several years up until recently. When I pulled it out of the garage, there was a nice puddle of ATF on the cardboard I had...

Re: What Model is This 56

Nope. The Mainline trim is different than the Customline trim, in that the Customline trim had the word Customline stamped into the triangular shaped flat portion.
My speculation is that Fomoco may...

Re: What Model is This 56

Don't know if you were aware of it but the '56 Customline models had the triangular-shaped bright metal trim stamped with the word "Customline". The Mainline models had this same triangular shaped...

Re: Rear parking brake lever

As far as I know, all you need to do is lay the cable into the little trough at the bottom of the lever. The spring at the end of the cable holds it in place in the trough. There's no need to crimp....

Re: My 56 Thunderbird transmission Leaks?

It is removable without disturbing the engine on a full-size car, but I don't know about T-Birds.
Most likely leak points would be: 1) converter-to-impeller housing large o-ring seal cracked, 2)...

Re: speedo gear-in tranny

Before you install your '57 small case FOM, remove the rear extension housing from the '57 trans and remove your old '55 rear extension housing and look at the speedo drive gear on the tail-shaft. If...

Re: speedo gear-in tranny

Re-reading the op's post again; as long as you are not changing your original rear-end gears to a different ratio or changing to a different tire size, just count the number of teeth on your original...

Re: speedo gear-in tranny

The '51 thru '53 Ford-o-matics had a speedo driven gear made of fibre-cement. I believe they switched over to nylon in '54 and kept this design in '55 & 56.
The gear was available in 19, 20, 21 and...

Re: 55 mercury steering box

"54 thru at least '56 Ford gear-box assembly's would be a direct bolt-on. I am pretty sure the '57/58/59 gearbox is same as the '56, with same bolt pattern. Only difference is the '56 and later boxes...

Re: 1955 Crown Victoria headliner question

The tack strips with the teeth in the back that hold the headliner for the Crown Vic should be the same in '55 and '56 I would think, as well as the even more rare '56 Mercury 2-dr hardtop model and...

Re: 1955 Crown Victoria headliner question

Oh brother it's gonna be hard to explain to somebody that hasn't had a '50's Ford all apart before.
Parts needed and method of installation:
1) headliner bows. Nearly all of them are different...

Re: late oil pressure

I seem to recall the need for 50 lbs of oil pressure in Y-blocks. Can anyone verify?

Re: late oil pressure

The specified oil grade to use is 10W-30, although many now are using 15W-40 diesel oil in Y-blocks to get the benefit of zinc content in the oil (which you need for the solid lifters). Other types...

Re: 1957 Ford crankcase filter number

If you are talking about the blow-by pipe filter, also known as crankcase ventilation screen, those can be cleaned in a solvent and re-used forever and ever, as long as the filter element is...
