June 1930 Metal Tire Stem set

I am looking for a complete set of Tire Valve Stems (preferably all parts) that are correct for June 1930. Doesn't matter which manufacturer. I would love a restored set, but unrestored is also...

Re: Floormat Attachment

Those two piece ones are not the original style and don't work well IMO no matter how hard you try to get the prongs over. For a 30 Phaeton I just did I wound up buying the original style ones from...

Re: Deluxe phaeton seat rest

Thanks. The weird thing is that the original seats of this car had the cups like the tudor, and we are sure these are the original seats. It is one of the first off the line (June 1930) do it is very...

Re: Factory Black paint mismatch

Not so much the color as to the differing rates at which the enamel and laquer oxidized. Different gloss levels can give the illusion of different shades when there really isn't. Not saying that the...

Re: Replacing the Wishbone ball

I like mig welding them up when worn and filing back to balk shape. For this application, a perfectly round ball isn't going to make much a difference versus one that's properly welded a filed...

Deluxe phaeton seat rest

What kind of seat rest did the 1930 deluxe phaeton use? A peg, a leg, or a cup like the Tudor front seats?

Female carpet snaps

30 Deluxe Phaeton Seat Rest

So I am working on a 30 Deluxe Phaeton and I am missing the part that supports the front seat bottom pegs on the back of the seat from going backwards and on an angle on the rear floor pan. I have no...

Re: Replacement distributor ????

As somehow who rebuilds distributors to the original specs, I can say that done right like anything on a Model A, they are extremely reliable. Your modern points may be a part of the problem, they...

Re: wheel lug nuts

Snyders nuts are fine. Never had an issue. The washers look dumb and are most likely unnecessary. The lug nut issue was from 20 years ago.

Re: Distributor point plate repair

He is talking about the fiber insulator plate that is riveted to the plate. I haven't tried replacing one yet as I have a huge stock of original plates but I might try it one day. One would have to...

Re: What species of wood

Ford used all kinds of wood, most commonly ash and oak. Ash is the best when it comes to making body structures for these old cars. Once painted, it doesn't expand and contract with humidity and...

Re: Looking for options on modern points and condenser

When rebuilding distributors I fix the wire problem by using something like this:
Abrasion-Resistant Wire, with Silicone Insulation, 16 Wire Gauge

Re: Howells fordor sheet metal

In this economy, if you have vustomer service and products that are horrible, you don't deserve to be a business. Leave it to the vendors who actually care about their customers.

It would have been more of a flatter black because of the material it was made of.

Re: Reballing steering arms

IMO, I would prefer a welded ball or a sleeved one to a new one that was welded on. Reason being is that there is just too much risk if the weld was bad or not sufficient enough. Preserving the...

Re: Restoring Spindle Arm and Steering Gear Arm Balls...

The best way is the way A&L does it - turn the ball down and a sleeve is put on. Welding a new ball in is not safe enough for my comfort, especially on a pitman arm.

Re: Howells fordor sheet metal

Yes they are absolutely horrible when it comes to customer service. I am getting tired of experiencing and hearing about companies like this.

Re: Painting stainless steel tailight housing

Good move. SPI epoxy is ten times better than garbage DP90 and cheaper if you can believe that. Have fun.

Re: Painting stainless steel tailight housing

That's how I would do it. Rough it up nicely and then use a good coat of a good epoxy and you should be good.

Re: Wood Grain

Quite honestly there are several people/companies over charging out there imo. There are some prices for 1500 for just woodgraining, meaning you send them the parts primed and ready to go.

Re: Crack in 28 AA rad crossmember

Replace. That is too far gone and cracked in too many places for me to feel safe to use even after welding.
