Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

Finally Finished! I'm slow with my posting too....While I had the whole thing apart I decided to replace the passenger side axle as well. All the extra thinking and parts delivery times added to the...

Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

Tom, I appreciate all the info. My car was fully restored 26 years ago and I inherited it 10 years ago, so I'm not familiar with much more than maintenance tasks.

Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

Snyder's Antique Auto sells it both ways, supposedly both for an "A" ($415 or $248). Their price for just the drive shaft is $74 less than Mac's ($322). Those are my only usual sources for parts.

Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

I have a stupid question and two informational questions. Hopefully I can get at least one answer to each. I'm trying to fully understand the job ahead before I get started.

Stupid question: If...

Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

Thanks to everyone for their support so far. As you can see from the photo, I do have a broken axle. And thank you Tom for the shortcut article. I usually don't have large blocks of time to work on...

Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

Thanks for your input. Can I get a decent spring spreader at Mac's or Snyder's?

Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

It will come out farther, just didn't know if I should at this point. Pulled it oit out 3 or 4 inches this time. I really don't know my way around the drivetrain. Already had the floor out and trans...

Re: Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

I jacked up and supported the rear end. Wheels turn independently of each other. Passenger side is solid. Drivers side moved when I pulled on it. I just pulled it out about an inch, then pushed it...

Broke down, trans won't engage any gear....Help!

Hi folks. Shift lever seems to move ok but transmission won't engage any gears. Had not driven my '30 Roadster for 4 months. Got about 1/2 mile from home, slowing down for a stop sign, kind of heard...

UPDATE: Silver discharge from water pump pulley

I have removed and disassembled the water pump to find the source of that silver discharge. The water pump shaft looks OK and the grease in the bearings is black, so no grinding in there. Although I...

Hi folks, I've had my '30 Roadster for six years but do not belong to any clubs or organizations yet. This website is the first place I've joined and I appreciate the help I've received. I am...

Re: Silver discharge from water pump pulley

I appreciate all the tips, advice and comments. My inspection is due this month so I'm going to wait until after I get it done (probably later this week) to take the pump apart. I'll let the car sit...

Re: Silver discharge from water pump pulley

Thanks for your advice, I was hoping my "projects" for this summer were over with. It doesn't exactly wobble, but there is about 1/8" horizontal movement of the shaft (which I thought was 'normal')....

Silver discharge from water pump pulley

Hi folks, I've attached a photo showing a silver 'Never Seize' looking discharge coming out of the center of the fan blade pulley. It's not obviously leaking when you sit and look at it running, but...

Re: 31 rear axle

Say MikeInNJ, when installing new grease retainers in the rear drums which way does the open part of the rubber face? The open side of the rubber where you can see the spring down in the groove. Is...
