Re: Anti-freeze Separation ?

Antifreeze is completely hygroscopic. The two substances combine into one.

The only way this can happen is that they were added separately and then left uncirculated.

You didn't say if the car...

Re: Pot metal Carb. cleaner

A couple-few comments to add:

1. The Gunk and Napa stuff are identical to one another.
2. On these early Carbs you have to be careful not to forget them for months. A longer soak can cause more...

Re: Car is Stopping Dead.. Locking Up...Help

Your problem only occurs when under load, so pulling the Drive Shaft won't tell you anything other than that the engine runs when not under a load, which (if I read your earlier post correctly) is...

Re: What make is this Town Car?

I believe this is in fact a Hodge Podge.

The wheels, as well as the Cowl Lights and Hood Lowers do look Chevy-like. However, the Hood's slope does not.

The Rear portion, as well as the vertical...

Re: Request for dimensions on 31 Roadster Subframe

Oooo. Tough situation, for sure.

Generally how this is approached is completely 'old school' where you mock up/test fit the parts, mark them, cut them and PRAY that you got it right.

Axle...

Re: Not much demand for Model As at any price or is it antique cars in general?

Yeah, Steve. It takes all kinds.

I know of many instances where a car didn't sell until AFTER the price was raised. I never did get my wits fully wrapped around the precise mechanisms of this...

Re: Not much demand for Model As at any price or is it antique cars in general?

A comment on 'asking prices':

More often than one might think, the ask is deliberately too high because the guy doesn't really want to sell it. But he has to keep the Missus happy when she says...

Re: First 4 banger, a 29 roadster having problems.

Copy that.

FWIW, I would not do a Compression test as a first step. (More on this point a bit later)

Backfiring has a schedule of probable causes. Despite what you may have been told, first...

Re: white walls a little yellow

I'm the the Wesley's Club as well.

Go to the drive-thru wash, work your way around the car from one wheel to the next. Grab a stack of Quarters and hit them with 'Rinse' from about an inch away. ...

Re: First 4 banger, a 29 roadster having problems.

I'm puzzled by the 'mis-wired' situation as I always thought it was pretty much impossible to do on this motor, provided that these are stock/original wires.

The wires are equal-length and the...

Re: Searching for a Short

To expand on Mitch's remarks above, fuses CAN fail on their own. Like anything else, they fatigue as they age.

I also concur with using breakers during trouble-shooting. I went to the Truck...

Re: Generator/Ammeter Question

A hydrometer cannot tell you the current state of charge. It can give an indication of a battery's ability to take and hold a charge, based on the specific gravity of the electrolyte. It is not and...

Re: Leaning Car

Cool.

To check for bad bushings you again need to have things un-loaded and use a pry bar anywhere they might deflect. Pry against something that CAN'T move (such as the Frame). When in doubt,...

Re: Worth saving?

How did you manage to be in the front and back seats at the same time?

Is this one of those internet photo-editing tricks or was the car simply going faster than the camera's shutter speed?

Re: Leaning Car

Seems you have a bad bearing(s) or loose Hub nut.
With the Wheel correctly torqued to the Hub and with no load (jacked up off the ground), put your hands at 12 and 6 o'clock and check for deflection...

I recommend testing with an inductive analog ammeter made by anyone other than harbor-fright.

Just...
