For applications like this, I wait until my bride is elsewhere, then heat the oven up to 450-500 and put the gear/race/bearing/whatever in for a half hour or so after the temperature stabilizes....

To get to the button you need to pull the horn rod out. The button assembly is attached within the light handle by a keeper with four tabs, accessible from the back of the handle.
