Ruth: I think your suggestion is quite possible. When I had the rear end and the transmission out of the car I checked the rotation without noise, and I never thought of the torque tube bearing. ...

Chris and Aaron: I'm going to try the keeping-the throw out bearing pressing on the pressure plate. Also, I neglected to say the engine has been rebuilt and has less than 100 miles on it.
