I had the same problem with mine, I put a floor jack under the front of the motor and raised the motor slightly and the belt slid off with no problems.

Is there a backing plate behind the sheetmetal where the spare tire mounting bracket bolts to the back of a coupe? noticed today the metal is cracking around the top bolt. Thanks, Keith T.
