Re: Heated Seats In The Model "A"

Electric seat warmers!. How soft have we become? A Model A gets too hot inside now, even in winter so I ask WHY?
Our grandparents used these car on a daily basis and overcame any coolness by...

Re: A Very Busy Thanksgiving

I've had one of those synthetic floats in one of my cars for at least a decade and it's still going fine.

Re: Replacing float and kit for 1930 Gas Gauge

No need for a sealant. In fact using one could make it near impossible to take out again in the future.

Re: Oil pressure and water pipe question

I've pondered putting coolant into the back of the block to help cylinders 3 and 4 but have never got it done. When I tow with the Model A, the motor is working hard all of the time so I figured that...

Re: Frankenengine

Lucky you, Magoo 2. 4 engines! I have been looking for a while for a fairly complete engine to rebuild.
As has been said, if you can get a running engine out of what you have, you will get a great...

Re: Spammers at it, AGAIN

If that is so, all those people who have been banned could simply change name and come back, yet they don't. Maybe Ryan blocks their IP address somehow.

Re: Flywheel housing mounting

In the first Model As, the front of the engine was bolted directly to the front cross member - no movement if you ignore the flex of the chassis.
You ask why don't they crack - they do.

Re: 1929 Grill Mounts

I assume you mean the stone guard. It is held on by a pair of "J" clips that hook into the holes in the shell where the headlight conduits emerge. Rubber stoppers hold it away from the shell.
Maybe...

Re: Leather main bearing

Leather bearings and wooden pistons were folk lore when I was a kid. We were told those stories by such a straight face that they had to be true.

Re: AAA for breakdowns in antique?

Sounds like they offer a great service. Do you think it's worth me joining?;)
Seriously, I have our local equivalent of their top membership which gives us a tow home and rental car to get ourselves...

Re: Rear water pump grease fitting

The fitting you show is normal. We call it a grease cup but you guys seem to have your own language when it comes to these things. I use Penrite Water Pump Grease which is not a grease at all (and...

Re: The Ace Mechanic Again

New condensers ae a real "luck of the draw" thing to buy - and you need a lot of luck. I go for a half decent brand and stay well clear of any Chinese item. You can bet if it has no country of origin...

Re: Answer to wanted postings

On the other hand though, I have placed Wanted Ads here and found what I needed when members replied. There were no problems with any of those deals and we both were happy with the results. I can't...

Re: First "Legal" Ride

IMO, getting/keeping these cars running is part of the attraction - something most young people can't understand.

Re: Printable diagram for adjusting valve tappets

The two methods are very similar. They both use the pitch of the thread to work out how far to turn the adjustment. IMO, you have just taken it one step further with your diagram while I rely more on...

Re: What am I missing? 1930 Model A

Some will think this is a crazy suggestion but crazy $#!T happens. Is the rotor button there and OK?

Re: Printable diagram for adjusting valve tappets

I do similar. If one turn is 1/24th of an inch (0.042"), then one face on the hexagonal adjuster is 1/6th of that (0.007"). It doesn't take long to learn how much to move the spanner to get 1 or 2...

Re: Head gasket?

55 Ftlb is plenty if you have a standard head. I run a 5.5:1 head and use the same though I have heard some say they like to bump it to 57 or 8 with a high compression head

Re: Iím wondering if my coil is going bad

I've had 2 of those coils fail on me in short time. Not a good option, IMO.
I run any old oil filled coil now but mounted with terminals up. As has been said, you would need to get a longer HT lead...

Re: Model A Engine for Rebuild

That's exactly my thinking on it too. I've walked away from bare blocks many a time. Very often they come with no main bearing caps.

Re: Problems "A" New Owner May Encounter

Where's the starter?
What happened to the power steering?
Where's "D" for Drive?
But I can pick out my car in the shopping centre car park.
