There are alot of folks around who do engine work. a cheap harbor freight stethoscope can help to pinpoint the knock.Years ago mechanics would do an 'overhaul' ..hone cylinders,fit new piston...

Some are prospects, some are suspects.. I attempt to turn the odds in my favor by only buying complete, untouched A engines, I've found that the last guy who took it apart and put it back together...

It appears that the cam screw is stuck. I bet that's not your problem, It sounds more like your steering column rotated some. if you loosen the clamp on the steering box and the clamp inside the car...

Run it some, let it break in. This is one area where Ford precision machining was not up to the task, assemblers at the Rouge had boxes of sliders clusters and shafts and would hand fit...

Babbit flakes and cracks..babbit is tinned to the bearing caps but pinned to the block,dont be alarmed if the babbit is 'loose' on the block side.
