Re: Horn Insulators

The little cylindrical spacers that separate the horn ring from the attachment plate have a height of about 3/16", under a wider washer-type top. The holes that they go through on the attachment...

Re: Horn Insulators

Horn rings for the '41 are notorious for breaking where the radial pieces join the center horn button. I may scrounge up a few broken ones to take apart for the little pieces. Otherwise, they...

1941 Ford. You know those little cylindrical insulators that go around the screws that hold the horn ring to the horn attachment plate? The horn ring is supposed to be able to slide up and down on...

Learned that as a freshman, but it got lost some time in the past 64 years

Re: Can 12V horn from '50s' be adapted for 6V system?

Maybe try a rheostat with adequate current capacity, like a heater fan motor controller. Adjust voltage down with the knob until you get the correct sound.

The wire from the horn relay to...

Re: Street Cam

I also have the Schneider 248f in my '41 coupe with a 284 inch 59a/b engine. Plenty of low end for my 3.25 gears in a fairly heavy car. Very driveable in traffic and on the Interstate. Not a...

Re: Stuck Valve ?

In the first few hundred miles after completely rebuilding my 59a/b, it took several sessions of drizzling MMO down the intake to get it running smooth. Now, with about 3,000 miles on it, every...

Re: 1947 Super Deluxe V8 engine ground strap?

On my '41 I still have the ground to firewall and firewall to intake manifold bolt. I also ran a heavy gauge copper cable directly from the battery ground terminal to the outboard bolt holding the...

Maybe the seal washer from a bottle of some additive to the radiator water?

Re: Dipstick Length

Or, if yours is like mine and read a quart over full with exactly 5 quarts in the pan, I worked a grommet over the dipstick up to where it seats, to space it up by the correct amount.

Re: LED bulbs

What!? They have LEDs that fit dash light sockets!. Do they have 12v positive ground?
Unless the sun is over my shoulder, I have to use a flashlight to read the gauges on my '41. Maybe because of...

Re: 47 Ford - 3 on the Tree question (Clutch question)

I was also taught to crank with the clutch in for safety. Also, it takes the transmission gear loads off of the starter. It takes a bit to spin the main shaft and cluster gear, especially when very...

Re: 2 ton truck question

My granddad had a '32 BB stake body farm truck that I know he loaded well over 2 tons. There was a steep hill on the way to haul a full load of fire wood to the cabin. He had to back the truck up...

Re: Alternator that looks like a generator. Is there such a thing.

Is there any way to rework a '41 6v positive ground generator to put out 12v negative ground? With a proper regulator, of course. Or does anyone sell such a generator/regulator combination?

Re: 1937 Philco 1440

You can find replacements for all of the vacuum tubes. However, there is a pretty good chance that most of the capacitors have gone bad and will need to be replaced. Finding replacements with the...

Re: Alternator that looks like a generator. Is there such a thing.

The PowerMax looks like a generator but is about 3/4" larger diameter than a stock generator. I did not last long. I took it to a generator shop who figured out that the polished aluminum...

You can do it...
