Re: 1950 sedan rear end help

rockabilly be aware (you probably already are) that you will likely get oil leaking along the splines between the pinion and the yolk. RTV behind the washer and pinion nut will cure it.

Re: 1950 sedan rear end help

Check page 105 of the manual re pinion seal replacement; it can be done without removing the diff. The manual suggests using a special tool to remove the seal but any sort of tool/tools to gouge it...

Re: I need to pull the speedometer Head from the dash...

Pls check your sources Als48. The entire instrument cluster removes from the back of the dash on my 50, it will not go out the front. The speedometer head is screwed into the back of the cluster, to...

Re: 1953 Ford 4 door rear vent window weatherstrip

Scottyboy; I wish you luck on locating the rear vent seals; I did that dance for a couple of months with little success. Phone conversations with the DC people in the "rubber room" did not even work....

Re: '35 gas tank yuck

Muriatic acid will take the rust out but you will find it only marginally effective if it has not been degreased prior; any type of degreaser will do. Do not breath the fumes, do not do it on...

Re: Shoebox door removal help

You might be able to drill the heads of the bolts off after you have turned the phillips head shape into a round shape with punches. Bring lots of bits.

Re: Shoebox door removal help

I believe the bolts you intend to remove on the chassis are have a phillips head. With a sturdy screwdriver give them a wack on the screwdriver with a big hammer. If you can get penetrating oil in...

Re: 8BA oil filter disconnected; trouble?

With all due respect to 69A's experience; not ALL 8BA's had the restrictor up-steam of the filter. I have 2 unmolested CDN 8BA's (50 car & 51 truck) where the ONLY restrictor is a hole on the...

Re: 1950 Ford sedan seat too far forward

This is the correct seat for the car. I am guessing that when the new upholstery was done something was assembled wrong. I cannot remember how mine had to be assembled but it was not rocket science...

Re: 1950 Ford sedan seat too far forward

The backrest in my 50 4dr has pins on the door side of the seats, from what I remember they had a locked position with a piece of hardware. It dawned on me at the time that this seat was designed to...

Re: Should I convert from 6 volts to 12 volts

It seems to me going to 12 volt is the first step on the dark side; go there if you like.

Re: Violent shake.

Some mid 60,s Studebakers also used this system. It is not a "wrong" system just a different system to prevent driveline vibration. If the cars suspension heights were messed with; front and or back,...

Re: Violent shake.

If you are going to inspect or check pinion angles just be aware the stock 50 uses what is known as a "broken back" system of alignment. If the front u joint angles down the back will also angle...

Re: Violent shake.

Are you talking about clutch chatter or is it after the clutch is fully released?

Re: New build (not fired), water in cylinder-head gasket backwards?

I think I have it!! The Garage Gremlin is pouring water down your carb when you have your back turned!! Unfortunately he/she is very hard to identify and almost impossible to catch. Not to worry as...

Re: New build (not fired), water in cylinder-head gasket backwards?

I believe a little optimism is required here. Perhaps we are overthinking this?? Could it have been as simple as water flowing from the gauge port, in a pattern such that much more went into #6 than...

Re: '53 Ford 8BA - misfire & rough running - getting worse

Do not skip Ken/Alabama's suggestion, that wire and how it moves can consistently make the engine run inconsistently. You will never get a correct reading from a digital meter when the engine is...

Re: Flywheel inspection possible?

This is just FYI for starter jamming problems, not necessarily related to 47 topless's problem. I have replaced the ring gear on 2 8BA's, both running driving vehicles and have had both of them jamb....

Re: 1951 temp gauge issue

It is normal for a flathead temperature to rise after it shuts down. I think we need to know more about your thermostats and how you determined actual temperatures: assuming there is a problem.

15" x 5" rims

I have a couple of steel (original 15" were optional) on my 50 Meteor. I have too much runout on two of the rims which I believe is causing a vibration problem. I have checked into straightening them...

Re: Suitable Shoebox Rear End Swap

A bearing supply firm located seals and bearings for my 50 Meteor. This was strictly from comparing numbers and measuring the originals. You need to find a patient parts guy. I sourced a new NOS...

Are you sure it was antifreeze that dripped out; could it have been just water?

Re: Starter problems

I have used this once, a notch in the starter plate; you need to carry a large screwdriver in your tool kit to rotate the flywheel. Now if the vehicle is parked over a mud hole there are other better...
