Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I agree, but I have encountered springs that seem to be painted or coated from the manufacture.

Re: Trans Replacement

The U joint is bolted to the transmission main shaft. You won't be able to access the bolt or U-joint until you get the torque tube dropped down and away from the inner clam shell piece.

The...

Re: rear drum studs

Seal puller. Can get one at any auto parts store or online of course.

The seal is not usable once you pull it, so have a new one ready to install in it's place.

Re: 48 Ford car rear hub bearing dimensions

This is interesting because the end of the axle housings had to be hardened and then machined perfect for the bearing to ride on. This process had to cost more than using Timken-type tapered...

Re: Clutch Release Shaft Bushing tool

I been using a generic bushing driver set for years with excellent results. You can get these cheaply from either Amazon or Harbor Freight.

Re: What gears in a stock '48 F1 with 9" rearend?

F1 stock rears had 4:11's I believe and should have a 29 tooth gear cluster in the trans. That 29 tooth will help you get moving from a dead stop and allow you to go with a "better" highway gear on...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

That 8BA cam is a dog. If the EAB cam is good, that's the best of what you have. Unless you are pulling tree stumps, you don't need low end power. Mid-to upper RPM is where most people drive. ...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Cam grinder Pete will know for sure, but I believe the "EA" is the same grind as the EAB cam which came out in '53. From what I understand, it was the "hottest" factory cam.

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

Haha. Thanks, Dale. I edited my comment. I originally looked at the pictures without my glasses. Once I put them on, I saw it clearly. LOL!!!!!

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Glad to hear that another motor is coming together.

Man, I know I'm in the minority here, but I would not go with a stock cam. While you have a the chance, go with something that can...

Ugh. Bummer. Hopefully you figure out where the problem is. What is that picture of the idler gear trying to show us? Edit: I actually put my glasses on and can now see the gears clearly. ...

Re: 255 Merucry Dyno Pull

Randall,

That's awesome and thanks for sharing. Can you tell us a little more about what you did? 126 hp is impressive for a stock looking motor.

Re: U Joint info

I should have said don't use with a V8. It's weaker than the later, V8 style and we all know its a royal pain in the ass to change one out

Re: Lincoln OD Transmission

Seth,

A LZ guy may want the O/D section, especially since you have the solenoid. Also offer up the shifter plate and the clutch arm. Those are LZ specific parts.

Edit: Looking at it again,...

Re: Lincoln OD Transmission

This. More than likely, it will have the 18/26 due to it being a '46/'48. It has all the O/D parts, so an LZ guy would be interested in those pieces.

Re: Why is there a need for an Adjustable Drag Link?

Not stock, but if you use a reversed front main leaf or a dropped axle (even a slight 1" drop) you will need an adjustable drag link.
