Re: Skip's rebuilt coils

We got way off topic but the above question was fair. The coils are noted for their reliability and if someone wanted to confirm whether a coil was rebuilt by Skip then a resistance test might be in...

Re: 1947 back up light switch bracket

When wired as original on my 49 ford the backup lights only come on when the headlights are on. I guess they were originally meant for night use before someone figured out that they make a good...

Re: Anyone use these drill/tap all in one?

Like anything it has its place. If you need to drill and tap a lot of holes in half inch steel these would be a real time saver. As others said you can use them with a hand drill and that is a plus...

Re: Flame thrower coil

Any coil will work on any car. The key is knowing how much voltage is fed to it and the condenser needs to be matched. Igniton systems are simple. You have a coil, points (switch) and condenser. ...

Re: Anyone with the "Dirty Word" knowledge

What does the person buying it want from the car? If they expect to just be able to get in it and turn the key to take the kids for ice cream forget it. These cars require constant maintenance,...

Re: EAB Heads & their Piston Reliefs - Is this right?

Here is what i have been told about this. Heads are really not milled or surface ground but simplay placed on a big belt sander to get them flat. The leading edge of the belt can be more aggressive...

Re: 255 merc engine

In my opinion, performance is gained by sacrificing reliability. but Now that is not a hard rulw but think for a moment what you do. If you stroke it you increase piston speed which promotes wear. ...

Re: Truck load of new 1953 Fords

When driving one needs to be aware of the overhang above you. When I was a kid I lived on a street with many different dealerships and I really respected that guy who would back the top car down...

Re: Won't go into overdrive when hot.

Ford just used the high current wire to switch the relay, thus 3 terminals. If you use a low current circuit to switch the high current you need the 4 terminals. They just made a cheaper or simpler...

Re: Won't go into overdrive when hot.

The governor can be checked without pulling that gear. Taking the cover off and you see the points for the switch. Underneath that is just spinning weights that engage the switch. Just file that. ...

Re: Shop ruined my '48 radiator tanks

I volunteer at my friend's machine shop. In the past year I've learned to run a tathe, a milling machine, how to TIG weld, build a louver press and dies as well as a few other things. Actually it...

Re: Engine Shop Expectations (Flathead 8ba)

From what I have read on here you need to make sure they know about leaving a radius when grinding the crank. I guess grinding them square leaves a weak spot where they can break.

Re: 51 Ford Convertible quarter window regulator question

They are rare and expensive. Whatever you get in any condition 49-51 go for it. I think the differences may be in the crank handle attachment. You could maybe change one out from another more...

Re: brake squeak

Squeaks are usually from the metal to metal parts. My dad has a squeak in his Model a and I lubricated all the rollers pins and what not and that pretty much cleared it up. Used permatex brake...

Re: Don't Blow Your Battery Tender

I think you may have had a bad unit. There has to be protection for high amp draws. They put out like a 1/a and that is it. Generator current should go to the battery before the tender because...

Re: Won't go into overdrive when hot.

Check for loose connections. Also it is possible the relay is failing when hot. When it is not working ground the terminal with the wire headed to the governor and listen for it to click. Check...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

You build an adapter or a whole different engine stand to support the front. That's one way.

Re: Stock 8ba distributor?

The biggest problem with the loadamatic is they do not adapt well to multiple carbs. You need ported vacuum and there's the problem. That is why centrifugal or the chevy conversion is desirable.

Re: Did I violate some rule I was unaware of

I will say that considering the title of the site the admins are pretty liberal as to what gets posted here. As stated earlier it does keep the site more interesting. People here are pretty open.
