Ford just used the high current wire to switch the relay, thus 3 terminals. If you use a low current circuit to switch the high current you need the 4 terminals. They just made a cheaper or simpler...

From what I have read on here you need to make sure they know about leaving a radius when grinding the crank. I guess grinding them square leaves a weak spot where they can break.

The biggest problem with the loadamatic is they do not adapt well to multiple carbs. You need ported vacuum and there's the problem. That is why centrifugal or the chevy conversion is desirable.
