Re: '35 backing plate bolts

If you can get a ring of steel like a big washer and put it over the heads of the bolts, and then refit the hub so it clamps the bolts tight against the axle casing it will hold the heads in place...

Re: starter, shorted out

marko39 has said to check the post. Further to this make sure the sheet metal band that covers the slots is positioned correctly and not shorting the post out. I had this problem recently and had to...

Re: 34 smoking starter switch from the newbie.

If you haven't really dug into it yet, first of all look at the connections. They may be loose or fuzzed up. I had to do this on my 41 pickup recently. The solenoid got hot and I burned my finger.

Re: 1934 Tudor needs a towbar - picture

It's a good question. I don't think there was a universally adopted tow hitch or ball size back then. Most things would have been home made and made to suit probably a home made trailer.
I would be...

Re: '41 4cyl P/U question

It is not 41 pickup, 6 or 8 cylinder. I don't think it is 41 pickup at all. It looks to be a bolt in on a frame that has boxed front rails. Note the upper flanges sticking out. As far as I can tell,...

Re: crash

Really sorry to hear this. I hope you are ok. That's the most important thing. When you say write off, do you mean it will be written off and they take it away, or will you be able to repair it (if...

Re: Flathead belt misalignment

Hello Harold. Are you using a 59Ab type pulley, or the French one? I looked at a pair of 59A pumps on a French block and there is a misalignment between the french pulley (actually a 4 groove pulley)...

Re: 34 crankshaft nut wrench size

I have some that are 1-1/8" but also have one at least that is closer to 1-3/8". It's a 5/8" thread so if a standard bolt has been used it could be 15/16".

Re: 37 steering box

I've not done it, but I think there are 3 holes, two of which line up. It might be that it will become obvious once offered into place.

Maybe???

Re: Electric fan over a belted fan

I like electric fans as long as they are:
1, not overly "on show".
2, not too noisy.

I have 4 early fords and they all have electric fans. My observations are:
1, you hardly ever need to use...

Re: 46 crab dist tune/replace

Bubba's taking it easy these days, you'd probably do better to try local (within Canada) first.

Re: How to repair damage to a deck

What would happen if you drilled and tapped for a pipe plug right on the fire ring line. Then fit a plug and cut/file it off flush with the deck?

Just sort of thinking out loud. From experience,...

Re: No oil pressure on new build

If I had an engine that was rebuilt 30 years ago I'd probably tear it down and reassemble it just for peace of mind. All that lube that was put on back then is probably dried up and gummy now.
