Re: 354 Ring an Pinion

I don't care that much about the speed,I just like to keep the RPM's down.I did buy two sets of 3.27's a few years ago when the rumor went around that they were going to get scarce.I've never used...

Re: 354 Ring an Pinion

I have a 31 coupe with a Mitchell OD and 3.54 gears.I know nothing about the engine, the car was off the road for over 20 years before I got it and put the OD in it.I only found it had the high gears...

Re: My new Ford.

Yes,and the Dodge brothers years long story was a much easier one to research back in the 70's because it was documented in many places, through the courts, the media, and thousands of depositions from...

Re: Narrow bed or wide bed

The easiest way for me to tell the TT an AA express beds apart are the fender mounts. The AA fenders bolted to the bed sides, and the TT beds had brackets that came up from the frame. No bed side mounts...

Re: My new Ford.

Ford didn't actually double the wages across the board. The workers got $2.34 per day, plus $2.66 in profit sharing IF they met his criteria. You had to work there for 3 months,22 years of age,(with...

Re: Cheap Gas

I have the first pump that dispensed leaded gas here in town.It was Gulf. The owner had a little store with a gas pump out front, and a couple of years after the war he added the leaded pump. That was...

Re: Cheap Gas

I bought a new 350 Honda and in the summer of 73 American high test was 31 cents.I was hard pressed to get a dollars worth into the tank.Winter of 73-74 we had the Arab oil embargo, and I worked at...

Re: Narrow bed or wide bed

I don't know what that bed is in the picture. It is not A,andand I believe it is not T.I could be wrong about that, but I've never seen a T bed with the stake pockets like that. The front stake pockets...

Re: Narrow bed or wide bed

Wide bed was June of 31,and the steel top was August of 31.There are soft top wide bed trucks around. If you had a steel top narrow bed it means somebody put it on there. There is a late 31 steel top...

Re: Why is there a need for an Adjustable Drag Link?

The splines on the original F 1 do not come into play on the A conversion. They are machined off to make the sector shaft square to use the A pitman arm.Only one mounting option at that point.

Re: Finding a nice Model A

After all the talk about the T's all being black, when the A came out it was not available in black at first. It was not listed as a color for the A until 1930.I've had two 31 coupes, and a 31 tudor...

Re: Why is there a need for an Adjustable Drag Link?

I think what Brent is getting at is that the F 1 steering box sector shaft is not square as the A is,and starts out round. It is then machined to the square shape for the A.It can be machined off...

Re: Gas tank filler neck

The cap has to be vented,it can't airtight. The car won't run long with a sealed filler. When the gas gets hot it has to vent somewhere, unless it is leaking gas I wouldn't fool with it.If I have the...

Re: Model A Voltage Regulators - NOW WORKING - Testers needed

I'm going to want to buy one, because I'm not a good candidate for testing.I only run LED lights new,and between 3 A's,I would have a poor cross section of driving habits.I haven't had to turn the...

Re: White wall tires

I just don't like them on A's.They take away from the simpleness of the car.A few years ago I bought a phaeton that had new tires on it.The owner had taken off perfectly fine whitewalls, and replaced...

Re: 1929 TwoLite headlamps w/ LED turn signals

I used to buy the old signal switches at the flea market when I found them.Just the simple ones, hot wire in,and right and left wires out.I bought some of the ones with rubber tires on them to shut...

Re: Need Cylinder Head

You are an extremely lucky guy if just the head cracked. When they crack enough for the head to crack they are usually cracked in the front of the block under the water pump, and on the left side of...

Re: LED headlight bulbs

I've tried most everything that has been made over the years.Behind the lens sealed beams made a weird light. The halogens worked OK,but the wires were always warm to the touch.I always left the band...

Re: OT: What type wood between frame rails and truck box?

Re: LED headlight bulbs

They work great.Couple of things to remember. You do NOT focus them, you AIM them. You get the word, focus, right of the sentence. Also,if you aim them against a wall like you normally would you will be...

Re: Wheel Well Patch Panels

Do you really need whole new panels?Looks like you just need to make up some patches to weld in those holes.

Re: OT: What type wood between frame rails and truck box?

I think this is being way overthought. This is going to be a shim between the body and frame, strength is not an issue.I installed a lot of bodies in the 80's,we used whatever hardwood was...

Re: Value of an Un-Restored Model A Engine

Re: Value of an Un-Restored Model A Engine

A man closed his dairy operation down in the early 50's,most of his land became Pease Air Force base.He was left well off,and took up tinkering with Model A engines. He'd take them apart, tinker them...

Re: Source for Roadster top hold down straps

Marco's picture is of originals for authenticity info,he is not a manufacturer. I thought Restoration Supply carried these straps.Have you checked with them?
