It used to be really bad when red oxide and lacquer-based putty’s were around

The best way to restore a deck lid is to take it apart. Separate the liner and skin.
That allows access to the inside to completely clean and repair. The d nuts and a reinforcement...

I make them out of aluminum and polish. Small screws mount them from the backside
Originals were plated pot metal.
I don’t really know what water plating is.....maybe I live under a rock!

The USPS used to give a lesser rate if it was a magazine or book; don’t know if that’s still exists. I wouldn’t pay $14.50 either; that should mail for $6+-

Inner won’t work.
Nobody makes a decent outer. The outer bead has a slight arch in it rather than straight

Most later 31 take the one with the boss for the bolt for strength
