Re: Max Speed of a Model A with 26% OD and HC Head

I saw 70mph on my Model A speedometer once, but that was when I had it disassembled in my hand playing with the dial. :D

Re: Same Condenser for 12V

Condensers and points don’t care between 6 or 12 or pos versus neg ground. Coils are made for the applied voltage. They make a separate 6 or 12 volt coil. Or if you use a 6 volt coil in a 12 volt...

Re: How many miles?

Absolutely no clue. The Speedo had about 6500 on it when I got it 4 years ago and it spent 2 years being rebuilt so with 2 years of actual driving, I’ve put on about 5k since. The car was well used,...

Re: What the H??? My new bakelite upper distributor body/shell is misaligned??

With a new distributor base in, you will need to re-time it, but you probably already know that. :)

Re: What the H??? My new bakelite upper distributor body/shell is misaligned??

Well, gee, maybe it is the distributor body. While I have never had one like that, it sure isn't beyond the realm of possibility that you may have gotten a rotten apple from your vendor. Do you...

Re: What the H??? My new bakelite upper distributor body/shell is misaligned??

I have ordered distributor bodies from several of our Model A vendors and have never had on fit at an angle.

Re: Stopping Distances

That's interesting because I find the need to stop quickly much more in city traffic than out on the roads. and highways. I do like the state highways and county roads better than driving the...

Re: Oh man. Now I canít even get my A to start or make a noise.

Bruceincam asked about voltage. Unless you measure voltages along the way, you're going to be flying blind. It could be something just as simple as a bad connection.

Re: 10mpg

I get around 17 around town and 20-ish on out on the road on tours averaging 45 mph. I generally keep the GAV nearly closed other than when the car is cold. Most say 1/4 open is the norm. All cars...

Re: Modern Ignition System Problem

That's one reason I stayed with points and condenser. People I know have spent a lot of $$ on burned out modules. I agree, however, that it is point-less (pun intended) to design something with...

Re: Headlight switch adjustment

The headlight switch cover has a little tab on the outside of the part that fits up into the end of the steering gear box. The extension from the gearbox has a notch that the tab on the switch...

Re: The smell of gas

If no gas is leaking past the shut-off valve when it is shut off indicates the entire issue is in the carb itself. The biggest single issue could be the float valve being set too high. That is...

Re: 20 or 30 Amp Fuse?

If you are running halogen headlights I would go with 30. Otherwise 20 is sufficient. There is no original spec on this because fuses weren’t original to the car. All you will get is opinion. You...

Re: My FIRST Phone call to Burt's in Colorado

They're a pretty busy shop, and I think there are only two that answer the phones. They are top notch and very knowledgeable so keep trying. Steve told me business has been booming with COVID...

Re: F100 Steering Box

I don't have one but I have only heard good things about them, particularly the ones from Randy Gross. I drove a friend's car that has one and there was effectively no play at all. It's not...

Re: Tune ups

It's interesting how we tend to measure point gap right down to the nat's eyebrow, so to speak. Recently I was on a drive and my car just quit with no other symptoms of loss of power, except for...

Re: Are brake floaters worth it?

After three tries at the Flathead brand, I gave up. The instructions say that all parts need to be in tip-top shape before proceeding. That was probably my issue to begin with. I was kind of...

Re: GAV Adjustment + Choke flood

When its cold I need to give one quick choke pull plus open the GAV 1/2 to 3/4 turn for a couple minutes. If I don't richen the mixture via the GAV for a couple minutes, I find that it will probably...

Re: Is this Model A or Model T?

Definitely not a Tudor. Tudor sill plates are about twice as long. Go to one of the vendor sites and look up sill plates. That will give you good information.

Re: Itís getting harder to drive my A

We enjoyed stopping by and seeing you, Jeannie, Noah, and your progress on the 28 PU chassis! Great work on that red steering wheel refurb.

As to spunk and vinegar, I am sure that Model A seats...

Re: Itís getting harder to drive my A

Ray, a small group of us did a 120 mile deal today and it can be a killer. Both my wife and I complain about the seats in the 29 Tudor. They're horrible! I am just coming on 70 and I can tell you...
