Re: Adding turn signals

For those who have added turn signals outside the original lights (rear, cowl) and 3rd brake light: Could you share pictures of your installations?
That would be a great source of inspiration to me...

Re: Changing of the Guard

Very interesting discussion, and probably one that will always be had regardless of the point in time ;)

I am also one of the young guard, and can indeed recognize a lot of the points made here....

Brent, thanks for sharing! Definitely very useful for me :)

Re: Specific wood question

Y-B, thanks for the excellent pictures! I would say mine was done differently judging from the pictures.
Mine is a 1931 Briggs Fordor :)

I put a straight piece of wood across the frame and took...

Re: Specific wood question

Was hoping someone here would know by memory :D

Anyway, thanks for the replies so far,...

Specific wood question

Hi Barners,

I have a question arising in the renovation I am currently undertaking: I am copying the bottom wood frame of my Fordor since the old one is in quite bad shape. Focusing on the part of...

Re: Cold start

Similar story, back in the 90's when my Ford still drove, my older brothers much younger car (Opel Kadett) often had starting problems in the winter - both in cold and humid weather. The Ford would...

Re: Thermostat update.

Interesting article! If steam is indeed formed in the circuit it can block waterflow, further reducing cooling. This effect is present and a real danger on some motorcycle engines.

But wouldn't a...

Re: European Fordor project

Hi JayJay,

Thanks for the elaborate reply - lots of good and useful info there!

Since the sheet metal anyways needs lots of repairs I do plan to clean up and coat the inside also prior to...

Re: European Fordor project

A small update: I decided upon using ash - although the vast majority of the old construction was made from oak. Apart from oak we also found beech, elm and pine in repairs made previously :)

* In...

Re: Sound deadening Q ?

What have you guys done (if anything at all :)) to insulate the roof, soundwise and thermally?
Could a material like dynaliner, or something similar, be used above the metal net instead of the...

Re: Sound deadening Q ?

Bob, that holds for vibrations of the car itself for sure. Does it hold for transmitted noises from the outside also?

Thanks for the input everyone - much appreciated!

I am located in Denmark - not the US. I expect the car to have been assembled here - good point by redmodelt about that. I have not yet been able...

Question Model specifications, colors and interior

Hi all,

I am currently renovating a 1931 Briggs Fordor that has been my fathers since 1972. The project is not quite at the finishing level yet, but I am slowly starting to think about painting...

Re: 1931 Exterior Door Handles

I would also be interested in good sources of 31 handles. My old handles appear to be a chrome shell that used to be filled with something, probably soft iron, that has long corroded away.

My...

Re: Front Axle Staightening

Thanks, Brent!

Guess I'll have to consider if the axle should come off again for checking :)

Re: Front Axle Staightening

May I ask, what would be the symptoms of a non-straight axle?

For my 1931 Fordor project the car was running fine when put away, is it advisable to look at this nonetheless?

Thanks!

Re: European Fordor project

Hi Mike,

I asked my wood expert about this - and he doubted it would make any real difference. He recommends to just use ash and - as you and more people here have stated - to seal the metallic...

Re: European Fordor project

Hi Ronn,

Indeed both are hard and mechanically stable woods. But oak (at least the european one) has a lot of acid in it. If you make for instance fence posts from it you need to use the best...
