Re: ORIGINAL TIRE SIZE?? (FOR 1947 Ford Coupe)

I may have confused the issue (hey, I do it to myself, often). Maybe this will help. I have already raised my car's front by replacing the long shackles with stock ones. The tires in front are...

Re: ORIGINAL TIRE SIZE?? (FOR 1947 Ford Coupe)

The wheels that are on my '47 are 15". Probably not the originals (maybe Mercs). Best I can find in my "half-assed" 42-48 Service Handbook" shows a '46 Merc Sedan with 6.50 x 15 tires. Sound right??...

Raising the Front End.

I'd like to perk up the front end of my '47 Coupe. (raise it a little above level with the rear). What's a good, inexpensive, safe way to do that? If possible.
Thanx

Re: STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN (Shake & Bang)

George/Maine I did notice the passenger side of the drag link IS rubbing against the wishbone (torsion bar). But, I'm a bit unclear about the rest of your explanation.

Re: STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN (Shake & Bang)

George/Maine. My engine is the original 59A and there is no problem with the oil pan. Thanks for that shackle measurement. (so my car has shackles about 1-3/4 inches over stock.)

Re: STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN (Shake & Bang)

My stupidity has kicked in. Parts terminology has me confused and up to this point I really thought I was doing good! I DO know my ass from my elbow, I assure you. Beyond that, not so sure!

Re: STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN (Shake & Bang)

40cpe: Ahh, but how do I fix that from happening? Mart, I just might try your switcheroo.
Any idea if shortening those shackles back to stock length would make a difference with these two parts...

Re: STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN (Shake & Bang)

V8COOPMAN, That rubber ball you mention is all shot to h*ll on my car. So, I will replace that, for sure. Thanks so much. Whether that cures my problem or not, it needs to be fixed. Is there any...

Re: STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN (Shake & Bang)

TJ, Between the frt axle & frame measures 3-1/4". Like I mentioned, the Rubber Bumpers are missing, but it doesn't appear the axle & frame have been hitting each other.
Thanks, Johnny
Also, the...

Unhappy STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN (Shake & Bang)

The steering wheel & column in my '47 car makes a bang & shakes when I go over some bumps in the road. For no better way of describing it, I'll call it a bang and a shake. I feel it all the way up...

Re: Spring Shackles???

dwick01,
The shackles that are on my car are longer than stock and the car sits a bit too low in the front. The springs are pretty much flat (no arch) and it takes bumps terribly.
