Thanks for the additional information. Curious why the Ford 21 stud 1937-38 illustration, found on Vanpelts indicates bolts through the end of 21 stud.
So the change from bolts to studs was...

21 stud main cap bolts
The 21 stud engines have bolts, not studs, for the main bearing caps. As seen in the attached links. Anyone know the size of the square head of the bolts?
I assume it is necessary to put a socket...

My information lists the 40-6049-A2R and 40-6050-A2R as 1935 with 7.50 compression ratio. A2 are 1936 with 6.33 CR. Both with flat top pistons and 18MM spark plugs.
