Re: What spring rate should I set with stock springs and an 8CM camshaft

We need more information. Cam selection is as much about vehicle type and intended use as it is about engine modifications.

Re: What spring rate should I set with stock springs and an 8CM camshaft

I still think the Isky springs would be fine. If you ain't gonna use them I'll take 'em off your hands.:D

Re: Change from 16 inch wheels to 15 inch wheels

Check the date codes on the tires. Radials (from the sizes you provided) get kind of "iffy" after 10 years. Who knows how old they were when installed 11 years ago?

It's probably time for new...

Re: What spring rate should I set with stock springs and an 8CM camshaft

Why do you say the Isky 185 springs are "way too stiff"? I have used them with an Iskendarian "MAX-1" which is not much more than an 8CM with no problems.

Re: Oil Pressure Sender... 6v & 12v

Ford senders DO NOT work by "resistance". They operate on the "King-Seeley" principle that uses bi-metal strips and points that open and close at changing frequencies. Thus is why folks get weird...

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft

That's a 25% increase in displacement. That oughta help!:)

Re: Oil Pressure Sender... 6v & 12v

Although the second statement is true, I don't know about the first.

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft

Looks to me to be the same as an 8BA cam (.307 lift). However, we can't be sure without the duration numbers. Have you checked out the chart on "Tilden Cam Technologies"?

Re: Coil adapter issue

I would advise against modifying in any way the "the nice, restored fan".

Re: Swapping Engines

Looks aside, Ford engineers improved the 8BA in several ways over the earlier units. Cooling probably being the most significant. If you replace the stock "Load-a-Matic" distributor with a Mallory...

Re: Skip Haney

The main thing is that his are essentially new. Ford coils deteriorate over time. I'll bet there aren't more than a handful of original coils running, if any.

Re: 6V vs 12V condenser

Condensers are not voltage sensitive and will also function well over a wide range of capacitances. However, current units can be shoddily made and bad out of the box (leakage and bad internal...

Re: Grey hound hood ordament

I heard Clara Ford made Henry drop them after 1934 when she found out they were "anatomically correct".:D

Re: 8.8 rear end into 1951 Ford Coupe?

I have a stock rear end in my '51 Ford. It is wide enough itself so that 225/75R15 tires occasionally scrape on the fenders (going uphill around a sharp corner). I have to believe an extra 1 1/2"...

Re: early Ford V8 flathead motor catalytic converter?

As I hear it, GM used bribery and shady politics to push municipalities to convert to buses after the war. Check out a guy named "Fred Ossanna" who was behind it in Minneapolis.

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft

I would be, mainly to see if it's the same as a standard 8BA (.307").

Re: early Ford V8 flathead motor catalytic converter?

I had a similar experience with the 8BA engine in my old '36. The engine was a fresh 276 Merc with a Holley 390 and an MSD "Ready to Run" ignition. When I took it to "Back to the Fifties" in the...

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

My 1953 Motor manual says the relief valve opens at 57 psi. That's close enough to what "flatjack9" says to probably be right.

Re: Navarro aftermarket heads

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I will repeat my recommendation of those (formerly) cheap ol' Edmunds heads. They are unlike any others in that they have the spark plug moved juuust...

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

Here is my experience with a Speedway oil pump : https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1628041&highlight=speedway#post1628041. I do not recommend them.

Re: 1950 sedan rear end help

I think a couple of holes, a slide hammer, and a sheet metal screw disturb the carrier a lot less than tearing it completely apart.

Re: '37 ignition

That reminds me of the time about I put a top-end MSD ignition system (distributor, control box, and coil) on the 276 Merc in my old '36. The spark was so hot that it actually "ate" through the...
