Re: car transport

 I really doubt that unloading the car that way is really going to hurt anything, the winch line is only there to prevent the car from getting away going down the ramp because there is no...

Re: counterbalanced crank welds

Probably no bolts holding the counterweights on that crank, just 100% weld around the weight. Two different ways to get the same result, both work fine

Re: front brake won't retract enough

If the ends of the shafts will not touch the adjusting wedge when the wedge is backed off what is stopping the shoes/shafts from retracting more ? Most likley there is your problem sounds simple but...

Re: Stop Leak

Agreed with the above info on a stock set-up A, but if you have a modern-type rear seal that drips a little or your modern ride leaks 3-4 oz of regular brake fluid in the crankcase (with the motor...

Re: Narrow bed or wide bed

Widebed much more rare, almost as rare as the fenders for them :-) typicaly they are known to be correct on late 31 trucks with the steel top cabs and indented firewalls
easy way to tell the beds...

Re: Replace rear motor mounts

Can it be done.......sure, but I don't think that you'll ever want to do it that way again.

Re: counterbalanced crank welds

There are a lot of crankshafts that were done that way back in the day. Never really heard of it being a problem. It should also have a small weld on the bolt heads to keep them coming loose. More...

Re: Frame Spreader

I think that the spring spreader would be too wide, also most likley will not clear the transmission. Might work though
While nice to have, with a little pushing and some wiggling the engine might...

Re: 8 leaf to 7 leaf rear spring conversion

Just went through this for my coupe besause I wanted the rear down just a bit.
#10 and #7 are the same, the top is contoured and beveled to fit the cross member.
Move #8 under the main (#1 spring)...

Re: Front fender crack

Yep, brazing has its place but it's NOT fixing the crack in a sheet metal fender.

Re: loose brake adjusting shafts

The shafts are a loose fit with a tapered shaft like the catalog pic shows. Probably more important is how worn the ends of the shaft are from 90 years of brake adjustments and the length of the pair...

Re: 1930 Radiator Shell Hood Hinge Retainer (A-8220-A) Finish

Checked several shells (mine, Dad's, and a friend's) 6 of the 31 shells were stainless (non-magnetic) 1 was carbon steel, plated and magnetic. The attachment rivets also do not look as nice.
3 of...

Re: 1930 Radiator Shell Hood Hinge Retainer (A-8220-A) Finish

The one on my 31 coupe s definitely stainless steel to match the shell.
What was used originally on the CCPU with the non-stinless painted shells ?

Re: mixing brake shoe linings

The only thing that I have heard of regarding the type of linings is that woven linings tend to work better on the original steel drums and the bonded linings work better on the cast drums ?
Never...

Re: Pace maker and the Model A

I know that my grandfather got one around 1965 which gave him an extra 12-13 years. Never slowed him down with his A's. Here is a pic of him and one of my uncles from around 1968 or 69 :)

Re: front axle spindles

Obviously, a non-oversized set of spindles would be the first choice but given your location maybe you could have a set of oversized kingpin bushings made up and installed locally faster and for less...

Re: Rear brake woes

Good thought on the keyway preventing the drum from going on fully, but it sounds like the shoes are still operating backwards. Pull the arm and they retract and he can get the drum on, then can not...
