Re: Roof Rail Seals

Thanks, Jeff but I already checked with them; no dice. I ordered a set of seals for a '51 Vic today off eBay to see if I can adapt them. They won't here be until prolly next week. Strikes me as...

Roof Rail Seals

I'm in the process of replacing all the door and window seals on the '55 Merc and have run into a snag. Being a 1 year only part, nobody repops the roof rail seals. They insert into the roof rails...

Re: iddle problem

The OP didn't say whether he has an automatic or a manual transmission. If he has a manual there is no dashpot.

Re: Borg Warner overdrive cable throw position

The spring load is a safety feature to prevent engaging reverse when the OD is enabled (cable under dash pushed IN). Engaging reverse moves the planetary cage out of the OD position; when selecting a...

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

A bumper sticker I saw recently: "The driver of this vehicle is armed 3 days a week. You pick the days."

Yeah, there aren't many septuagenarian car thieves who are still plying the trade. ;)

Re: Factory Floorboard holes?

Often the larger ones are access holes for various things such as transmission fill plugs, etc., or drain holes in case of a lot water entering the interior.

Re: manual three spd trans

Try Mac at Van Pelt Sales. He may be able to ID it by the numbers and may have what you're looking for.

Re: 1955 Ford speedometer reads too fast??

Car manufacturers do calibrate speedos to read faster than actual speed, why is anybody's guess, possibly legal liability. I use a GPS app on my phone. I found that my Merc reads about 5 mph fast up...

Re: spark plugs

I have personal experience with Champion's quality issues. I had a '53 Customline with the original flatty, a fresh rebuild. I used Champion plugs and soon after the maiden run on the rebuild the...

Re: spark plugs

Autolite #46 or equivalent. Stay away from Champion, they have quality control problems.

Re: dash questions

Windlace is a piece of fabric folded over a soft foam core giving it its round shape and gets placed around the opening of doors and gives the upholstery a finished look.

Re: 272 oil pump prime

A hanger will fit depending on what gauge wire it is, but the problem is the oil passages to the rockers aren't a straight shot to the center cam bearing. They make a dogleg under the heads about 1...

Re: 272 oil pump prime

No problem with Vaseline, it will just dissolve when the pump starts pumping oil. The nut w/plunger and spring is the pressure relief valve. It is not an adjustment.

Re: 272 oil pump prime

Yes, counter clockwise (or anti-clockwise if you prefer). Remove the valve covers and spin the pump until you see oil at the rockers.

Re: 272 oil pump prime

I'd fill it with oil, 90 wt gear oil. If dry it will eventually pick up oil from the pan but it cold take 30+ seconds. The small amount of gear oil won't hurt anything in the engine.

Re: Dual chamber master cylinder for drum brakes

It was what was immediately available locally when I needed one. It worked just fine and is still working just fine per the guy I sold the car to. Improvisation is the very soul of hot rodding.

Re: Dual chamber master cylinder for drum brakes

A late '60's/early 70's Malibu drum/drum master is a near bolt on, may need to drill 1 hole in the firewall. Any dual master you get will make your pushrod a tad short, but adjustable length pushrods...

My "Huh?" response was to a spam post in what appeared to Russian. The moderator must have removed it. I understand about bore limits and core shift.
