just a heads up electronics dont like voltage spikes and any car with a generator and reg has more than enough to kill any modern electronics yes it can be done but its not a simple buy and bolt....

its certainly odd but check the driving gear within the pump itself and make sure its positively locked to the shaft [keyway, dimple, weld, spline it doesn't matter ] but interference fit wont work...

take the spring to a reputable spring works, get them to strip it down and check each leaf it may not be worth repairing then get a quote to repair/remake [price a replacement spring so you know...

could be one or multiple issues so lets keep it simple and start with a general tuneup new plugs, points, timing etc and possibly a new coil [this is general maintenance and could well cure it ]...

sounds like youve done well on your 1st attempt with the trans in gear and foot on pedal you should be able to turn the uni [clutch disengaged] lift your foot the clutch begins to grip and lock...

the small hole will allow minimal coolant flow when below temp this allows for even warm up and stops air pockets forming under the temp valve some stats already have this in them 80C is the most...

want to stop valves sticking add about 50mls of two stroke oil to a tank as modern fuels are dry [little to no oil residue] wont smoke but it helps them not to stick

battery or starter on way out as already stated but check voltage to the coil when cranking sounds like your loosing it somewhere Key switch or ballast resistor or just plain out worn out wiring ....
