Re: Crankshaft Pulley hot!

Are you running water or antifreeze? Antifreeze provides rust preventative and water pump lubricant. As long as it turns semi freely, start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes then pull the...

Re: Oil Breather tube 20 inch flex tube

Maybe SHE needs the "breather tube". Seriously though, I have one on my A and I don't notice any oil fume smell in the car.

Re: Aftermarket radiator cap.

I believe the original 28-29 radiator cap threads are 2 3/16 inch. If the cap you have is indeed 2 1/2 inch, it's not correct for an A.

Re: Knocking on start up

Its a simple matter to pull the pan and check it out. Should be done once in a while anyways. The bearings have wafer thin shims that you take out to tighten.

Re: The Battery Game

I keep a simple 1/2 amp trickle charger connected to all of my vehicles. Every few weeks I plug them in for a day or two. Keeps the batteries in tip top condition.

Re: It was the Condenser

If you lift a spark plug strap and watch the spark you can usually tell in a few seconds if its an ignition problem. Do it when its running good so you get a feel for what its supposed to look like.

Re: Model A only runs 40 miles

Sounds to me like a timing issue. If you drop the timing all the way down does it ping? It should, lift it just enough to stop the pinging.

Re: Post or not?

I'm curious as to how much weight savings does the aluminum head and block give you?

Re: 1929 model a ford motor

Either way, now would be a good time to pull the caps and check the bearing clearances. Plastigage works good for this. Make sure to mark them when you remove so you get them back on the right...

Put some marvel mystery oil in the gas. ATF works too.

Re: Mystery missfire .

With an updraught carb its not as easy. Run a hose into the container, put the other end of the hose into the carb throat, then hold your hand or a rag in the carb throat to make enough vacuum in the...

Re: Mystery missfire .

As its idling, lift the #4 spark plug strap enough to watch the spark. Make sure its steady and hot. If the cylinder fires with the strap lifted then you likely have a plug issue.

Re: mud coming out of my engine???????????

Mud???? Where is it coming from? What makes you call it mud? You need to give details and preferably pics or all you're going to get is a bunch of wild guesses which are useless.

Re: Carpet

I have no idea if they have JoAnn's Fabric where you live but that's where I got mine. 5 foot wide spools, roll off what you need. Nice quality carpet and a Model A is about the easiest car to...

Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.

One other thing to consider when buying a model A. Will you fit? I am 6' 4" and it is very uncomfortable and even dangerous to drive some models. My Fordor, with some seat and shifter mods is very...

Re: Ammeter Flops to Full Discharge When Key On

Put an inline ammeter in the circuit and take an actual reading. So many of the replacement ammeters over the years have been junk. Even a good one gives a very general idea only.

Re: Engine Knock at 2000 RPM

Aluminum timing gear can make a metallic rattle although I think it most likely starts at lower rpm. Is a motor mount loose or front pulley touching? Take a prybar to lift engine while running.

Re: Keyed 6 volt source

If you have an original cutout, you can tie to the input side. It'll only have power when the car is running. Depending on what you plan to use the power for, filtering and conditioning may be a good...

Re: Fuel pressure at the carburetor?

It's not about the weight of the volume of the tank, it's about the weight of the column of fuel. A water tower with water level at 100 feet will have the same pressure if it hold 100 gallons or 1...

Re: Alternator over charges

You need to do a voltage check in order to help us troubleshoot the issue. Do the check directly on the battery and another right at the alternator. Get back with the data.
