Re: Gone 8 miles!!! Questions? Problems.

Patience is key with machinery.

About the water...it may not be overheating if it just pukes when stopped. Make sure the water level in the radiator is a couple of inches below the "neck" of the...

Re: You ever do something really STUPID?

I was about 18, working on my souped-up '56 ford. I couldn't tell if the secondaries were opening on the AFB I had recently mounted, so I decided to look down the throat of the carb while I gassed...

Re: Advice needed for buying my roadster

Here's my '31 Deluxe. I paid $16250 for it, but it needed engine work and a lot of small but time-consuming fixes, including painting the cowl, hood, etc. I do all my own work, and have about 120...

Re: Starter is not generating enough torque

A worn-out commutator (surface starting to miss plating) will do that too. Inconsistent and slow.

Re: The Engine Assembly Line

Even in the 60's machinery often lacked guards. I worked at a cement manufacturing plant and for my uncle who was a farmer back then with big irrigation pumps. At both it was common to have big...

Re: Engine Installation Preference

I had the same setup as the OP when I pulled my engine, except I thought I could get away with not completely disconnecting the throttle system from the rear of the engine (bad move). I used a...

Re: Engine sits too high

I had a similar problem with my '31 roadster. After changing motor mounts, I finally figured out that the problem was a replacement front cross-member that sat slightly higher than the original. I...

Re: Your biggest Model-A mistake of the year?

I've noticed I'm starting to get into the habit of calling myself stupid. Just something as dumb as walking by my '31 while holding a jackstand and taking out a big chunk of front fender paint as I...

I'm not talking about this particular car, but...

If I were to buy a model A with a mismatched engine number, and I was sure it wasn't stolen, I'd just grind off the block number and re-strike...

Re: why are so many people fascinated by cars of the 1920s

Exactly! Although several of my '60s decade high school friends had model A's, the 20's-30's era is really what beckons me. I'm a big Laurel and Hardy fan, and enjoy many of the silent movies from...

Re: USPS problems?

@History
I do my own taxes and made a mistake (about $1500 worth) that I caught about 3 years later. I filed an amended return for that year, and the IRS refunded the money no problem. What I've...

Re: Alignment

If you have a car that has a non-centered steering issue, the string method can sort that out by referencing the wheels position with respect to a held-center steering wheel. My own experience...

Re: Alignment

That's what I was thinking...
Do the toe-in adjustment with the steering wheel centered and held in place with something. If the steering wheel is not held in place during a toe-in adjustment, the...

Re: For those who don't have a four post lift......

I use two floor jacks for even lofting, with jackstands to follow. I slide around under the car on large sheets of cardboard - works so much better than a creeper!

Re: The price of a Model A Ford

I have two grandsons aged 18 and 20 that live next door. I also have two old fords I constantly work on next to where they live, a restored '31 deluxe roadster, and a '41 coupe hot rod. They never...

Re: model b engine cm gear

According to every tech article I've read, and my own observation regarding the B diamond engine in my car, the mains ARE pressurized.
