I have used automotive side molding trim as a substitute for the original belt trim. Painted and attached it has stayed in place for years.

Are the door straps mounted outside or inside the lining of the door and interior? Inside doesn’t seem right to me.

I was able to find an original outer ring and when I installed it, it seated perfectly. I compared the original ring and the repro outer ring and the repro had half the the threads of the original...

Threads are not stripped, without the gauge in place the outer ring screws in tight.

The outer ring contacts the gauge, but when the gauge isin place it will not screw down, it slips. When the gauge is out the outer ring screws down nice and tight.
