Re: Snyder's New Catalog Came...and a Warning!

I think there's a point at which the collection becomes so large that it's actually more likely to be junked. Whoever is saddled with it has to either scrap it or dedicate some huge number of hours...

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio

Just for clarification, the gear sets sold currently are 3.25:1, not 3.27:1. I believe it's due to a change in the tooth numbering. The old sets were 36:11 and the new sets are 39:12.

The current...

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio

I think the Burtz head and cam would be solid recommendations. Carbs are much more about your personal taste. If you want to keep the original profile, converting to a Model B carb and intake is a...

Re: Exhaust manifold intake bolts broke

Always worth repeating that most original exhaust manifolds, including every swap meet manifold I've ever seen and possibly your current manifold, exhibit the characteristic droop on the cylinder 4...

Re: Snyder's New Catalog Came...and a Warning!

We're liquidating Doug Black's collection, and a fellow club member came to buy spare transmission gears (a high-value item!), and I said if he was going to buy more than one of something he had to...

Re: Snyder's New Catalog Came...and a Warning!

A good way to speed up the decline of the hobby is to "buy everything you need or might need" and wind up with a warehouse full of good parts when you die. Where are all the hoped-for young people...

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio

I don’t have Brent’s extensive experience but my research aligns with his advice here. An engine with the three core upgrades (head, carb, cam) will run 3.25:1 no problem.

Re: Mid-Atlantic Pre-War Swap Meet, 05/10/2024-05/11/2024, Luray, VA

Lang's Model T parts says they will be at Luray if anyone wants to order something and pick up there.

Ace Hardware (https://www.acehardware.com/departments/heating-and-cooling/fireplaces/fireplace-matches/4397410) carries them.

Re: Mid-Atlantic Pre-War Swap Meet, 05/10/2024-05/11/2024, Luray, VA

Things I would be interested in buying at Luray:

Linkage rods where the cad plating is still nice
Model B condensers that are still good (I can test)
Leftover Hirsch engine paint cans
...

Re: Motor Mount/Yolk

Are the springs connected to each other? I wonder if this is the common aftermarket “beehive” spring setup. I believe those had hard rubber dowels under each spring.

Re: engine compression levels.

Here’s an example of a device that could be used to do contribution testing.

Re: engine compression levels.

Isn't a contribution test used to isolate a single bad cylinder? It wouldn't really tell you if all the cylinders were equally worn.

Re: Distributor Cap Advance Lever Slot

To be clear, it is shorter top-to-bottom, not reduced in the range where the arm swings. The shorter gap sits right on top of the B plate arm.

I have five in my collection; on four of them the opening measures .975” and on one it measures .875”.

Re: Mid-Atlantic Pre-War Swap Meet, 05/10/2024-05/11/2024, Luray, VA

I’m liquidating a collection with lots of sheet metal and rebuildable mechanical parts. If you’re going to Luray, post a shopping list and I’ll see what we have.

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

My crazy speculative theory is that this is a 28/29 RHD intake manifold, extensively modified. The boss for the vacuum port is in the same location as the boss on RHD intakes where the bell crank...

Re: Mid-Atlantic Pre-War Swap Meet, 05/10/2024-05/11/2024, Luray, VA

We are trying to disperse some brass headlamps and other fittings from a late club member's collection. A lot of them are Model T. I'm pretty busy managing the liquidation of the main collection but...

Re: Condenser Capacity

Yeah, you can use the larger V8 condensers in an A or B car without a problem as long as they don't leak. And an A condenser will work fine when using a B distributor in an A car (although obviously...
