did you use a known mechanical gauge? my 51 merc engine reads high when cold but drops to 60lbs running down the road, 30lbs idling hot. if by chance you used the electric gauge-do you have an 80lb...

if you did not open carb--numbers will be lower--no free air to compress--less compression!

mostly GL4 or below is because most people only need to keep up with one bottle of trans/rear lube--if you made a mistake and put GL5 in your columbia what would this small mistake cost you?

you should see the crud formed by ethanol gas, literally strips off the HD applied tank sealer, turns the carbs to green goo, ruins fuel injectors. but hey it is a HD "bike" and those guys can...

some of the later model 4 speed trans had a removable front "hogs head" this part contained the clutch release shaft/lever/fork--much desired to use when installing later 5 speed over drives

wide belt, mounting is a vertical bolt, not bolted at an angle. as an aside--most army trucks came with an 8ba because they had more power than an 8rt--higher compression

flathead Fords are a "dirty" running engine, diesel engines are "dirty" also, especially the older versions, diesel oil also has a lot of detergents, dispersants in it which helps to keep the carbon...

not the gears but the rpms that make these things fast. talked with a man from SD and he talked about pulling 4 bottom plows with one, he cautioned to start it moving first then lower the plows...

if the engine has 180 degree thermostats that is what the engine will run for temp., does your windshield crank out? not sure if convertible windshields do that if it does not you will have to open...

oil is coming by the rings or sucking up by the intake valves--freeing up the rings may help curb this consumption, also check on the breather system-road draft tube--oil fill cap
